My heart is full of joy seeing the excitement these resources have brought to my students. From second grade all the way through seventh grade, every student who walks into our Dyslexia classroom is drawn to this special area with the beanbags and composition rug. It has quickly become the most loved spot in the room.\r\n\r\nThe cozy space has transformed the way students engage with learning. Many of them choose this area when reading audiobooks on their laptops, and some even prefer completing lessons here instead of at the kidney table. Having this choice makes them feel comfortable and confident, and I see how it motivates them to participate and enjoy the learning process more fully.\r\n\r\nI cannot express enough gratitude for your kindness. What may seem like a small addition has made a huge impact on my students' joy for learning and their eagerness to come to class each day. Your contributions have made a tremendous impact in our classroom.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students now have access to individual headphones, stools, and privacy folders that allow them to focus during assessments and truly demonstrate their understanding of the material. These tools help create a more structured and differentiated learning environment, giving each child the opportunity to learn in the way that works best for them.\r\n\r\nBeyond assessments, these resources have also opened the door for meaningful collaboration. Students are engaging in deeper discussions, sharing ideas, and learning from one another in ways that foster both critical thinking and teamwork. It has been inspiring to see them take ownership of their learning and build confidence in expressing their perspectives.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the motivational incentives—such as recognition, rewards, and birthday celebrations—have helped create a positive classroom culture. Students are not only more enthusiastic about learning, but they also feel valued and supported. Small celebrations and goal-setting opportunities have gone a long way in keeping morale high and making each child feel special.\r\n\r\nIn short, this project has made our classroom a place where students feel seen, motivated, and empowered to succeed. One key aspect of our approach is \"preferential seating,\" which means assigning students to specific seats that best support their individual learning needs. This thoughtful accommodation is especially beneficial for students with disabilities or learning differences, helping them thrive in their educational journey.\r\n\r\n**Here's how preferential seating can enhance the learning experience:**\r\n\r\n- **Near the Teacher:** Placing students closer to the teacher allows them to easily hear instructions and engage with visual aids, fostering a more interactive learning environment.\r\n- **Away from Distractions:** By positioning students away from noise or other disruptive elements in the classroom, we can help them concentrate better and immerse themselves in their studies.\r\n- **In the Front of the Room:** Seating students at the front ensures they have a clear view of both the teacher and any visual materials, helping to keep their engagement levels high.\r\n- **In a Separate Room:** Providing a calm, distraction-free space for testing or specific activities allows students to perform to the best of their abilities without unnecessary interruptions.\r\n\r\n**Who might benefit from preferential seating?**\r\n- Students with disabilities that impact their ability to see, hear, or stay focused.\r\n- Students with ADHD who may struggle with concentration in more chaotic environments.\r\n- Students who are easily distracted and need a more controlled setting to excel.\r\n\r\n**How can we effectively implement preferential seating?**\r\n- Begin by assessing each student's unique needs and preferred learning styles to tailor seating arrangements accordingly.\r\n- Identify potential environmental factors within the classroom that might distract students—such as noisy classmates or busy bulletin boards.\r\n- Adjust seating to place students in locations that minimize these distractions, enhancing their focus on essential tasks.\r\n- Offer more frequent supervision and constructive feedback to guide students in their learning processes.\r\n- Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies, making adjustments as necessary to continuously support our students' growth.\r\n\r\nWe are truly thankful for your support, which enables us to create a more nurturing and effective learning environment for all our students!","fullyFundedDate":1739571333036,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-a-learning-experience/8986696/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating- a Learning Experience!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rangel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8490711_orig.png?crop=1362,1362,x199,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659759192225","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/krangel"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_95584","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1010,"numTeachers":61,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":98,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":62.5,"schoolId":95584,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about La Academia De Estrellas Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"La Academia De Estrellas Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/texas-department-of-education/la-academia-de-elementary-schooltrellas-cs/95584"}
