My students could hardly wait to try the sensory tunnel, body sock, and stepping stones. We set up a movement path using the stepping stones, and the students practiced balance, coordination, and turn-taking. One student who typically hesitates with new activities surprised us all by proudly crossing the stepping stones twice and then running back to do it again. These moments showed how much confidence the new resources are helping them build.\r\n\r\nThe first time they saw the body sock and sensory tunnel, there were lots of smiles, giggles, and curiosity. Students eagerly explored the tunnel, crawling through it with joy, while others used the body sock to stretch, push, and wiggle their bodies. These tools gave them safe and fun ways to regulate their energy while also strengthening their bodies. Even students who can sometimes feel anxious found comfort and calm through these new sensory experiences.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll continue to use the materials as part of our daily routines and small group activities. The sensory tools will support lessons in self-regulation, balance, and confidence, while also providing fun brain breaks that help students return to academic learning focused and ready. These resources are already making a difference, and I'm so excited to see the continued progress as my students build strength and independence each day.","fullyFundedDate":1758202976700,"projectUrl":"project/building-sensory-strength-and-confidence/9614318/","projectTitle":"Building Sensory Strength and Confidence","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hollins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10183651"},{"teacherId":10183651,"projectId":9614180,"letterContent":"When the new sensory materials arrived, my students were immediately drawn to them. One of the first projects we did was setting up a sensory station in our classroom, where students could explore different textures, weights, and movements. During small group time, I noticed one student who usually struggles with transitions calmly using a sensory tool to self-regulate and then rejoining the activity with a smile. Moments like that show just how powerful these resources are for supporting both learning and emotional growth.\r\n\r\nThe first time my students saw the materials, their excitement was contagious! They were curious, engaged, and eager to explore. Some students gravitated toward the tactile items, while others enjoyed movement-based tools. Even students who are often hesitant to try new things found comfort and joy in using the sensory materials. Their reactions reminded me how important it is to provide these kinds of supports in our classroom.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll continue to integrate the sensory materials into daily lessons and routines. These tools will be used to help students stay focused during academic work, calm down when they feel overwhelmed, and build independence in managing their emotions. The next step in our current projects is teaching students how to choose the right sensory tool for their needs, giving them more ownership of their learning and self-regulation.","fullyFundedDate":1758202966147,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-tools-for-growing-minds/9614180/","projectTitle":"Sensory Tools for Growing Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hollins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10183651"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_8332","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":556,"numTeachers":62,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":66,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":54.2,"schoolId":8332,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kujawa Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kujawa Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/aldine-independent-school-district/kujawa-elementary-school/8332"}
