We have been using the new board games during structured class activities, specifically during our Mindful Monday's, designed to help seventh graders interact and collaborate with peers from different sending districts. One especially meaningful moment was watching students who had never spoken before work together to learn a game, problem-solve rules, and celebrate small wins as a team. These games naturally sparked conversation and cooperation, helping students feel more comfortable and connected in the classroom. The students were immediately excited and engaged. Many were eager to explore the games and jumped right into playing, which helped ease initial nerves. The games created a welcoming and low-pressure environment where students felt more at ease interacting with new classmates. \r\nMoving forward, students will continue using the games to build communication, teamwork, and conflict-resolution skills as part of ongoing social-emotional learning activities. These skills will carry over into future collaborative projects and class discussions, helping students build strong peer relationships and a positive classroom community throughout the year.","fullyFundedDate":1760737310030,"projectUrl":"project/play-to-connect-strengthening-social-bo/9418871/","projectTitle":"Play to Connect: Strengthening Social Bonds With Games","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. DeMartini","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9567075_orig.jpg?crop=1382,1383,x0,y101&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718204058585","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9567075"},{"teacherId":9900997,"projectId":9677197,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donations to our Therapy Dog Program. Your contributions had a significant positive impact on students' learning by supporting their social-emotional well-being, which in turn enhanced their ability to engage academically. The presence of the therapy dog helped reduce student anxiety, improve focus, and create a calmer, more welcoming learning environment. Students who often struggled with stress, emotional regulation, or confidence were more willing to participate, communicate, and remain engaged in classroom activities. Overall, students demonstrated improved self-regulation, stronger peer interactions, and an increased readiness to learn.\r\nBecause of the materials and support provided for the therapy dog program, I was able to intentionally incorporate social-emotional learning into daily instruction. The resources allowed for structured interactions such as reading to the dog, supervised walking and grooming routines, and calming breaks that reinforced positive behavior and emotional regulation. These experiences enabled me to better support students' mental health needs, strengthen relationships with students, and maintain instructional time by proactively addressing stress and behavioral challenges. The program allowed me to create a more supportive and inclusive learning environment that directly contributed to improved student engagement and academic success. I have been able to implement more interactive and hands-on lessons, which boosts student participation and deepens understanding of the subject matter.\r\n\r\nMoreover, the generosity of donors has significantly lifted the morale of both the students and myself.
