I don't remember how she taught me, but I remember reading with her and continuing to read book after book after book. I loved going to the bookstores and finding a new book to bring home. When I became a mother, I tried teaching my daughter how to read. I didn't understand why she wasn't picking it up. It wasn't until she was diagnosed with an auditory form of dyslexia years later, that I finally got it. \r\n\r\nFast forward, I now teach first graders who are learning the science of reading. Many of my students pick it up quickly. Others struggle to segment and blend the sounds they are learning. I have a passion for literacy and for teaching these students how to read. Furnishing my classroom with readers at all levels allows me help them to achieve their literacy goals. I love reading to them and even more so, I love when they want to read to me. I love seeing their faces light up when they realize that they can read something. Whenever we have some free time, or they have finished an assignment early, they ask if they can read a book. Teaching these little humans how to learn and love to read, has been the most rewarding experience of my teaching career. Thank you for helping me make their goals achievable.","fullyFundedDate":1728397461123,"projectUrl":"project/helping-little-humans-learn-and-love-to/8672697/","projectTitle":"Helping Little Humans Learn and Love to Read!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Estacio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9686429"},{"teacherId":9842869,"projectId":8954244,"letterContent":"I wanted to take this time to thank you for your donation to our school. I have placed these items in my office for student use. I have been working with a particular student with self-regulation and anger management since the beginning of the school year. When he first saw the couch, he was thrilled. Usually, he would walk around and touch my things without permission. Now, he sits on the couch, uses fidgets, and practices breathing exercises. \r\n\r\nOur first graders are earning the chance to have the buildable couch in their classroom. Right now, they take their quiet time right outside of their door. However, to build their own space inside the classroom would be safer and more intriguing.
