My students were absolutely thrilled to open the boxes—they treated it like a treasure chest! Watching their faces light up as they explored new stories and authors was a reminder of just how powerful books can be.\r\n\r\nYour support means more than you know. These books will be read, shared, loved, and revisited all year long. They'll help my students grow as readers, spark their curiosity, and give them new worlds to imagine.\r\n\r\nWe've been using our new books during free reading time as students work on reading stamina. I've noticed that the books never make it back to the classroom library, because there is a waiting list for each of our new books. \r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for investing in my students and believing in the importance of reading. We are truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1758804087360,"projectUrl":"project/inspire-young-readers/9474906/","projectTitle":"Inspire Young Readers!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Amador","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3654828_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1475123903413","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amador-kr"},{"teacherId":3291624,"projectId":9108714,"letterContent":"I am so grateful and excited to share with you the impact your donation has made on my class. My students were thrilled when they found out they got brand new fraction manipulatives. Our previous set was laminated paper and had been well used over many years. It was missing pieces and many of the pieces that we did have were bent or torn. So you can imagine the level of excitement my 5th graders had when they saw our new set. They couldn't wait to get their hands on these tiles! \r\n\r\nAfter I explained to them where these fraction tiles came from (you, our generous donors) I asked the students to help me unwrap the tiles. They did a great job helping unpack and unwrap each set. Then we got to work, using the tiles. One of the first activities we did was a game call \"Fraction Buckets.\" This activity helps students with comparing fractions on a number line and with understanding benchmark fractions, like one half, one whole, etc. \r\n\r\nIn 5th grade we also look at fractions greater than one, otherwise known as improper fractions. The \"Fraction Bucket\" game helps students visualize this concept, but we have also been practicing how to change a mixed number to an improper fraction and vice versa. We practiced using an activity with different examples and students worked in pairs to figure out these types of problems.\r\n\r\nWe will continue to use the tiles for adding and subtracting fractions, as well as relating fractions to decimals. The tiles have fractions on one side with corresponding decimals on the other. This will be a useful tool for students to gain better understanding of these concepts with hands on practice. \r\n\r\nNone of this would be as engaging or educational without your support.","fullyFundedDate":1739864959121,"projectUrl":"project/fractions-are-hard/9108714/","projectTitle":"Fractions are Hard!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jost","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3291624_orig.jpg?crop=1432,1432,x417,y194&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739813558070","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3291624"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40448","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":402,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":95,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"20.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":85.1,"schoolId":40448,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kings River Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kings River Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/kings-river-union-elementary-school-district/kings-river-elementary-school/40448"}
