We dove right in—We quickly put the materials to use during our mapping unit, and the difference was clear right away. Students who normally hesitate to participate were suddenly eager to plan, draw, and revise their work because they had the tools to bring their ideas to life.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments so far was watching small groups create their \"5 Themes of Geography\" flipbooks. Each group used the materials in their own creative way—matching colors to themes, designing borders, and adding thoughtful details. The quality of their work has improved, but even more importantly, their confidence and pride have grown. The classroom has felt more energized, collaborative, and imaginative ever since the materials arrived.\r\n\r\nWe are now moving into new projects where these supplies will continue to make a huge impact. Students will be creating more maps, diagrams, and visual models throughout the year, and they already have ideas for how they want to use the materials next. Thanks to your generosity, they have everything they need to think bigger, try new things, and take ownership of their learning. Your support has truly made our classroom a more joyful and creative place, and we are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1757537320827,"projectUrl":"project/collaboration-nation-where-creativity-c/9416815/","projectTitle":"Collaboration Nation: Where Creativity Comes Alive!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Raymond","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9460227_orig.jpg?crop=2544,2544,x0,y203&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750090269665","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9460227"},{"teacherId":5827679,"projectId":9199480,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom project. I wish I had taken photos of the students' faces as I unboxed all the books. I honestly didn't expect them to be so excited, but they were! They could not believe that people that didn't even know them would donate money for their benefit. I think their thank you letters reflect that!\r\n\r\nOne comment I received in response to seeing that we acquired an entire book series for our classroom was \"can we read them all?\" This came from a student who does not read for pleasure! He was serious too. Many of the boys in my classes were over the moon about the \"I Survived\" books we acquired through this funding. We are currently in a historical fiction unit, and all of the \"I Survived \" books are on display for students to look at whenever they like. I am using one of the books for a student who is below grade level in reading and struggles with comprehension. The graphic novel about D-Day was an instant favorite and one that many students have expressed interest in reading once they finish their current books.\r\n\r\nStudents have gained a fair amount of background knowledge of WWII and the events that led up to it before starting this unit, so they are very invested in their reading and are doing a great job making real life connections. \r\n\r\nOnce this unit concludes I will be displaying the other series that we acquired through Donor's Choose for students to read/borrow. We have a lot of readers this year and I know they will be very excited when I put new books out, especially of genres they are interested in! \r\n\r\nMy students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are truly humbled by this donation, and I hope it has inspired my students to be more giving people, if and when they are able to. The world (and especially our children) needs more people like you!","fullyFundedDate":1733405525283,"projectUrl":"project/the-right-book-can-change-a-students-ou/8826924/","projectTitle":"The Right Book Can Change a Student’s Outlook on Reading!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Perretta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9455886_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753572685569","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9455886"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44258","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":692,"numTeachers":63,"percentFrplEligible":52,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":76,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":87.3,"schoolId":44258,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Killingly Intermediate School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Killingly Intermediate School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/killingly-public-schools/killingly-intermediate-school/44258"}
