Thanks to you, our drama club was able to perform \"The Emperor's new clothes\", using portable microphones that allowed for multiple voices to be heard at once. Students were able to move around while speaking, which freed them up from standing in one place with a long-corded microphone.\r\n\r\nThe performance was a great success and students acted their little hearts with pride and excitement. They were so excited to find out that we would be going outside more often - to make specific observations about what we're currently learning, or on occasion, just to enjoy the natural world and beautiful weather. \r\n\r\nDuring our life science unit, we will be venturing out to observe plants and animals. As you can see in the pictures, we went out to investigate some of the spring flowers that are popping up around the school. Some students also chose to bird watch, making observations with drawings and writing down things they noticed about their bird's behavior. \r\n\r\nIn our upcoming unit on space we will again get outside to observe the changes in shadows over time as well as the types of clouds. The students are already asking when we will get to go outside next. In a world so connected to technology, t is so gratifying to see students excited about being outside! I started this club in late October and we meet once a week from 2-3:30pm after school. Right now, I have about 20 kids in grades 3-5 participating. The club is a very relaxed environment where students can choose the skill and game they want to play. The games focus on basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Some of the games are played with cards, some with boards and game pieces, and others with blocks and/or white boards.\r\n\r\nThis club has really turned out to be a great success. I have had kids tell me they are feeling more comfortable with their multiplication facts, in particular, and they are learning strategies to figure out problems. The kids are excited to come each week and really try to challenge themselves. A few of the games are labeled as specific for 5th grade, yet the 3rd graders grab them and teach themselves to play. At first, the kids were sticking with their friends when choosing a game to play, but then they started \"mingling\" with the other kids. As a result, 5th graders are playing games with 3rd graders and giving them support to figure out strategies and answers.\r\n\r\nI have been really pleased with the results of these games on student confidence and math fact achievement. Thank you again for your generous donation and I look forward to continuing my afterschool program with the current group, and new some new members, until the end of the school year.","fullyFundedDate":1724106871414,"projectUrl":"project/afterschool-math-gamers-unite/8673145/","projectTitle":"Afterschool Math Gamers Unite!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Keller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9027271_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724089285571","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9027271"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64906","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":364,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":41,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":46,"percentWhite":21,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.2,"schoolId":64906,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kenilworth Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kenilworth Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/prince-george-s-county-public-schools/kenilworth-elementary-school/64906"}
