From the beginning I have been very impressed after learning how the organization has been empowering donors to have a direct impact on our public schools since 2000. The philanthropic vision became a reality thanks to the determined efforts of founders, Charles Best and Theresia Gouw. The idea of teacher-led efforts to engage and inspire young students, funded by generous donors, resonated with me immediately. I was amazed at how fast my project titled, \"Outdoor PE Fun\" was accepted and funded. Big thanks to the generosity of Marc and Lynne Benioff to Hawaii's public school system. The school I teach at, Kapa'a Elementary School, is a title one school. Where some of my students come from broken homes and others are houseless. The donations made available by the synergistic efforts of the Donors Choose program, teacher created projects, and the philanthropic people in the community has a profound impact on our youth. This impact extends beyond the classroom and into the greater school community in which we live. The Donors choose providing teachers with a platform to bring higher levels of access to quality educational resources equates to improved student performance and learning. \r\n My project was inspired by my PE classes being conducted outside in Hawaii's idyllic weather and consistent trade winds. The Wind Wands and Kan Jam game both are home runs with my students. From a PE teaching perspective these are used to improve eye-hand coordination, dexterity, muscle toning, cardio-vascular and cardio respiratory endurance. The photos I uploaded capture the simple joy, comradery, and excitement the students shared while using the new equipment. We use the poster I uploaded a photo of as reminders of expected behavior and standards of conduct while in PE class. I will periodically have the kids read chorally the posters message to start off the class and set a positive vibe. I plan on using the certificates of excellence as a motivational tool to reward students who are trying their best, playing safe, and being good sports. Kickball is a favorite of my 5th graders and we have a 5th grade kickball tournament at the end of the year. The expressions on the kids faces when they first laid eyes on all the new equipment brought me back to early childhood memories of waking up on Christmas morning and seeing all the presents under the Christmas tree. The start of the year is always filled with wonder, excitement, and endless possibilities — and because of you, we are able to create a learning environment where every child feels welcomed, inspired, and ready to thrive.\r\n\r\nYour contribution is helping us build a toolkit of essential teacher resources that truly make our classroom come alive. With the Cricut Maker 4, I can now design personalized name tags, center labels, interactive visuals, and hands-on learning games that reflect my students' unique identities, interests, and cultural backgrounds. These small touches make a big difference in helping children feel seen and valued from the very first day.\r\n\r\nThe classroom printer is already proving to be an invaluable tool. It allows me to create colorful materials, family communication pieces, and engaging activities quickly and efficiently — ensuring that learning stays dynamic and responsive to students' needs. The cardstock you helped provide adds durability to everything from alphabet puzzles to classroom signs, giving our materials the strength to withstand enthusiastic little hands.\r\n\r\nOur easel paper is supporting group learning, collaborative storytelling, and anchor charts that help students build early literacy and language skills. And the paperholder is keeping all of these resources organized and accessible, helping our classroom run smoothly and giving students the independence to explore materials on their own.\r\n\r\nThese tools are helping us meet key goals for the year:\r\n\r\n• Creating a visually rich and organized classroom that supports independence and engagement\r\n• Developing personalized materials that honor students' identities\r\n• Strengthening early literacy through interactive displays and storytelling tools\r\n• Encouraging creativity and hands-on learning\r\n• Building strong communication with families\r\n\r\n\r\nBut beyond all of that, these resources are helping us create a classroom filled with love, intention, and possibility. They are the behind-the-scenes magic that allows me to craft meaningful learning experiences and a warm, welcoming environment where children feel supported and excited to learn every day.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us start the school year with creativity, confidence, and a bright sense of purpose. The Tonies audio box has already become a beloved part of our classroom. Its screen-free, child-friendly design allows even our youngest learners to independently listen to stories and songs, building listening comprehension and nurturing a love for storytelling. Watching their faces light up as they choose a character and settle in to listen has been truly magical.\r\n\r\nThe ABC puzzles with sound are helping our keiki strengthen phonemic awareness in a playful, multisensory way. As they match letters and hear their sounds, you can see their confidence grow — those small moments of \"I know this!\" are powerful building blocks in their literacy journey.\r\n\r\nFishing for letters has added movement, excitement, and collaboration to alphabet learning. Children are practicing letter recognition, building vocabulary, and developing fine motor skills, all while laughing and playing together. Whether children are exploring books about emotions in dramatic play or discovering stories about building in the block area, they now have easy access to literature that connects to their interests and experiences. These bins are helping us weave reading into every corner of our learning environment.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is giving our students more than materials — you are giving them opportunities to grow as readers, thinkers, and storytellers. This physical awareness helps develop self-awareness, a core SEL competency, as students recognize tension or discomfort in their bodies and learn strategies to address it proactively.\r\n\r\nIn addition, incorporating brief foot-rolling breaks into the school day supports self-management by teaching students how to calm themselves, regulate emotions, and re-center before engaging in academic or social tasks. Over time, students can associate these small, intentional moments of care with improved emotional resilience, patience, and mindfulness, creating a more positive and centered learning environment.\r\n\r\nBy promoting both physical comfort and emotional regulation, the Theraflow Foot Roller serves as a practical tool for fostering overall well-being and strengthening SEL skills in students.","fullyFundedDate":1760378723194,"projectUrl":"project/lets-get-rolling/9415192/","projectTitle":"Let's Get Rolling!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jake De Peralta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9594079_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721087954043","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9594079"},{"teacherId":9594079,"projectId":9339969,"letterContent":"Incorporating sensory and organizational tools like the Emilux Large LED Fish Lamp Tube, attendance and behavior charts, and the Amdrebio Black Round Area Rug has had a transformative impact on my students' learning and classroom environment.
