The manipulatives allowed students to explore math concepts in hands-on ways, while the cardstock was used for creating foldables, anchor charts, and interactive notebooks. Our new books made it possible to run small-group novel studies, literacy rotations, and fluency practice, ensuring students were supported at their individual levels.\r\n\r\nOne especially powerful moment was watching students work in differentiated groups—some using manipulatives to build number sense, others diving deeply into novels during guided reading, and others practicing fluency with confidence. Students felt empowered because the materials helped meet them where they were, and they were proud to show their learning in different ways. Many shared how \"real tools\" helped them understand challenging concepts and made learning feel more engaging and achievable.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our next steps include continuing to strengthen a growth mindset as students tackle more complex math problems, expand their novel studies, and reflect on their learning progress. Your support gave students the resources they needed to believe in themselves, take academic risks, and grow as learners. By contributing to this project, you truly became part of our classroom journey—helping lay a strong foundation for both academic success and confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1698992405642,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-math-and-ela-centers/7973687/","projectTitle":"Hands-on Math and ELA Centers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Anela","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8822182_orig.jpg?crop=2532,2532,x22,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759249267149","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8822182"},{"teacherId":8822182,"projectId":7223795,"letterContent":"Thanks for your generosity. My students are actively using the new resources every day in meaningful ways. Chart paper and chart markers are front and center during lessons as we create anchor charts together, capture student thinking, model strategies step by step, and create classroom expectations. Post-its have become a favorite tool—students use them to jot down reflections, share ideas during discussions, and organize their thinking during ELA lessons. When the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students were eager to help unpack everything, test the electric pencil sharpeners, and proudly share how these tools would help them learn and stay organized.\r\n\r\nThanks to these materials, our classroom runs more smoothly, and learning goes deeper. Laminating sheets allows us to preserve student-created charts and reusable resources that students can reference during independent work and small groups. Also, the laminating sheets are used to display our intentional word for the new year. As we move forward, students will continue building on current lessons by creating new anchor charts, engaging in collaborative note-taking, and using laminated tools for review and practice. Your support has given our students the resources they need to take ownership of their learning, and they feel proud knowing that so many people believe in them. Whether they're building something, solving a problem, or exploring a new concept, the technology makes learning feel more like discovery than work. It's become something they look forward to using, not just another classroom tool. \r\nSome of our quieter students have really blossomed with this new resource. It gives them a comfortable way to participate and show their thinking without the pressure of speaking up in front of the whole class. We've also seen students who usually struggle with focus become more attentive because the interactive features keep them actively involved. It's been very exciting to be in a new room, and your donations have helped us in so many ways. \r\n We are class that utilizes the Building Thinking Classroom practices, and your donations have really supported our journey. Most of our daily work is done at vertical white boards in small groups, so we need an organized room with a good flow so that I can move about freely as I facilitate the learning. The white storage bins have helped me organize supplies to keep our room neat and clutter free as I move about. I rarely stay in one spot throughout the period, so the portable standing desk has been an amazing way for me to move around the room when I need to incorporate technology into my lessons. All of the whiteboard supplies are put to great use daily. The students love having their own spray bottles, erasers and microfiber cloths at each board, and I love how clean they boards look after each class. \r\n In addition to supporting my teaching practices, I am grateful for the special items that support my teaching. I love the thermal printer and labels that have helped me label my students materials and all of the supply bins. The gel pens and new binders are essential for keeping good records and the lovely new office chair keeps me comfy and makes me smile. The new area rug provides protection for our new floors and has become a favorite spot for students to gather. \r\n Finally, the various baked good containers are going to be put to great use during our financial literacy unit. The students will be creating a cafe for the teachers for Teacher Appreciation week where they will design a cafe, price and sell items, and calculate profits. They will create a pretend currency that teachers can use to purchase items, so tons of creativity will be involved in the process. \r\n All of this would not be possible without your generosity. The technology allows me to plan more engaging, organized, and differentiated lessons that better meet the needs of all learners. I use it to create clear visuals, interactive slides, and hands-on activities that help make abstract concepts more concrete for young students. Having reliable technology also allows me to quickly access instructional resources, model skills in real time, and adjust lessons based on student understanding.\r\n\r\nWhat is most exciting for my students is how lessons feel more engaging and dynamic. They are more attentive when I can project visuals, model problem-solving step by step, or share stories, images, and videos that connect to what we are learning. The MacBook helps lessons move smoothly, which keeps students focused and excited to participate. Even small changes—like clearer directions, visuals, and interactive activities—make a big difference for second graders.\r\n\r\nI've noticed that several students have especially benefited from this improved instruction. Visual learners and English language learners better understand lessons when I can support instruction with images, diagrams, and examples. Students who typically struggle to stay engaged are more focused when lessons are well-paced and interactive. While many donors are familiar with technology at home, in our classroom it is used intentionally to support academic growth. It allows students to learn at their own pace, receive immediate feedback, and build confidence in a supportive setting. Students are especially excited by the interactive activities on the iPad, as well as hands-on learning with LEGOs, which help make math concepts more concrete and encourage collaboration. The reading log necklaces, incentives, and student bags have also been powerful motivators, encouraging responsibility, positive behavior, and a love of reading.
