Because of your donation, our 10th grade English students now have access to historical graphic novels that have truly transformed the way they experience both history and literature.\r\n\r\nLearning history is especially powerful for 10th graders, as they are beginning to think more critically about the world, different perspectives, and the events that shape societies. The graphic novels you helped provide make historical moments feel immediate and human. Instead of seeing history as distant dates and names, students are able to connect emotionally with real people, conflicts, and choices. This has sparked meaningful conversations, curiosity, and empathy in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThese historical graphic novels also deepen students' understanding of literature. As we study themes such as conflict, identity, injustice, resilience, and power in traditional texts, students are able to make strong connections between historical events and the stories they read. The visual storytelling supports comprehension, especially for reluctant readers and English language learners, and encourages students to analyze how authors use imagery, dialogue, and structure to convey meaning—skills that are essential in English Language Arts.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your generosity has helped students see reading as engaging, relevant, and accessible. Many students who once felt disconnected from history or literature are now eager to read, discuss, and think critically. Your support has given our students tools that will strengthen their academic confidence and broaden their understanding of the world.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and investing in their learning. Your kindness has made a lasting impact in our classroom, and we are deeply grateful.\r\n\r\nWith sincere appreciation,\r\nYour grateful 10th Grade English students and teacher","fullyFundedDate":1746569851551,"projectUrl":"project/keeping-history-alive-with-graphic-novel/9184558/","projectTitle":"Keeping History Alive With Graphic Novels!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Metz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9430216_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1705098164380","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9430216"},{"teacherId":1822693,"projectId":8664537,"letterContent":"At long last, a thank you for your generation donation to support collaborative learning! Students get so deeply caught up in the individualism of grades that they forget that they are surrounded by other students. This Donors Choose project has helped me change that for them. Writing in my classroom has become more interactive and engaging thanks your support! \r\n\r\nWhiteboards and Post-it poster paper have transformed the way my students brainstorm and interact with prompts. With whiteboards, I can give feedback instantly and in real time, making quick adjustments to show how structure and word choice impact the skill. Students feel more comfortable experimenting with their writing when it is easily erasable and knowing that mistakes can be easily corrected or disappeared! Post-it poster paper has also encouraged collaboration, allowing students to share their ideas and thinking visually in a large format. These tools have created a dynamic learning space where critical thinking feels less intimidating and more like a shared process of growth.","fullyFundedDate":1724867616229,"projectUrl":"project/collaborative-work-is-fun-and-effective/8664537/","projectTitle":"Collaborative Work Is Fun and Effective!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mead","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1822693_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1709817629875","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/themead"},{"teacherId":1822693,"projectId":8448771,"letterContent":"At long last, please accept my sincerest gratitude for your generosity! This is my FAVORITE time of the year as I get to revel in the beauty of the results of this Donors Choose project.\r\n\r\nMy students have been busy reading and creating with the books from this project. Reading has transformed them! With the addition of these high-interest, multi-genre young adult books, many of my students have found a book that interests and engages them. This has given them an opportunity to build their reading endurance in a way that feels enjoyable rather than forced. Graphic novels and short novels, in particular, have been a game-changer for reluctant readers. By providing these options, I am not only fostering a love of reading, but am also equipping students with the skills they need to tackle more challenging academic material with confidence.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, since the projects are both academic and creative, it really gives them an opportunity to show what they know in a non-traditional format. They were especially eager to choose their own colorful writer's notebooks, which immediately sparked enthusiasm for our creative writing warmups. \r\n\r\nThe pocket folders have already made a huge difference in keeping their handouts and materials organized—no more lost papers! Each class now has its own color, making it easy for both me and the students to stay organized. I keep a folder as well, so when a student struggled with executive functioning, we can go through it together and organize their work. It is incredibly helpful!\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I'll continue using these materials to build strong writing habits and keep everything in one place for easy review.
