Our center was out of snacks before this project was funded. In the time without snacks, students would visit us looking for a little support to get them through their day, but sadly, left empty handed. A handful of students rely on our snacks to help them stay energized and awake during the school day, this is largely because the are unable to have breakfast before getting to school.\r\n\r\nWhen we received the snacks from this project, many students were excited! They were grateful that generous people helped us. After coming down day by day to check if we had anything, I can only imagine the joy they felt to finally find their favorite snacks waiting for them. Many of our students come from tough socio-economic backgrounds and face many challenges in their communities. Our wellness center serves a community of over 150 students, and these snacks make a meaningful difference in their daily lives. For them, school can be a safe space, especially the wellness center.\r\n\r\nAs an educator, I will continue to create a safe and comfortable environment for students to visit and obtain their basic needs. This has greatly benefited them by providing them a connection to the entire community.\r\n\r\nNot only has this supported their communication skills- it also served as an incentive. They have learned to make an effort to get as many orders as they can each day to help raise funds for our field trips.
