We use it for everything — morning meetings where we share our feelings, read-alouds where we get lost in stories together, quiet moments when someone needs a soft place to regroup, and partner activities where friendships grow. One moment that stands out was during a reading lesson, when a student gently patted the square next to them and invited a classmate to sit there so they could read together. It was such a simple thing, but it showed how this rug has helped create a deep sense of belonging.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the rug, their reactions were pure joy. As they rushed over, one child gasped, \"Mrs. Drummond, your rug is so pretty!\" Another settled right in and said softly, \"Your carpet is my favorite place to be.\" Those words meant more than they realized — because for many of them, having a warm, welcoming space can make all the difference in how they start their school day.\r\n\r\nAs we move into our storytelling and personal narrative unit, the rug will be the place where ideas begin. Students will gather close to share their stories, practice reading their writing aloud, and listen to one another with care. I know these moments, stacked one on top of the next, will help them grow not only as learners but as kind, confident little humans.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students a place where they feel safe, valued, and excited to learn. Your generosity has touched our classroom more deeply than you know, and we are truly grateful!","fullyFundedDate":1754924353580,"projectUrl":"project/creating-little-artists-art-supplies-fo/9400497/","projectTitle":"Creating Little Artists: Art Supplies for First Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Drummond","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10051398_orig.jpg?crop=1542,1542,x564,y947&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749221673473","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10051398"},{"teacherId":10051398,"projectId":9400427,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your generous contribution to our classroom! When I moved into a new classroom this year, it felt like a blank slate—until the rug arrived. I unrolled it and set it up before the students arrived, and it completely transformed the space. It helped me put a personal stamp on the room and immediately made it feel warm, welcoming, and ready for learning. When my first graders walked in and saw it for the first time, they were in awe. One student gasped and said, \"Is this for us?\"—and I could see on their faces just how special it made the classroom feel.\r\n\r\nSince then, our rug has become the heart of our classroom. We start each day with a morning meeting gathered in a circle, sharing thoughts, setting goals, and building community. It has given us a dedicated, comfortable space for our read-alouds, phonics games, and story time. Most recently, we used the rug to dive into a \"Storyteller's Circle,\" where students took turns sitting in the middle to share their personal narratives—a powerful and confidence-building moment for these young writers.\r\n\r\nHaving this rug has truly transformed the way we use our classroom space. It has encouraged collaboration, increased student engagement, and helped establish routines that feel safe and comforting to the kids. For many of my students, school is a place of stability—and now it's also a place that feels like their own.\r\n\r\nAs we move into our next unit, we're starting a project on kindness and community. We'll use the rug to role-play scenarios, share acts of kindness during our \"Kindness Circle,\" and reflect together as a group. I'm so excited for the meaningful learning that will continue to grow in this space you helped create.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our classroom and supporting our learning journey. Your kindness has made a lasting impact.","fullyFundedDate":1749422459458,"projectUrl":"project/where-we-meet-learn-and-grow/9400427/","projectTitle":"Where We Meet, Learn, and Grow!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Drummond","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10051398_orig.jpg?crop=1542,1542,x564,y947&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749221673473","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10051398"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_14121","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":417,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":51,"percentWhite":30,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 2","studentTeacherRatio":"14.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":53.2,"schoolId":14121,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Joseph W Lisenby Primary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Joseph W Lisenby Primary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alabama/ozark-city-school-district/joseph-w-lisenby-elementary-school/14121"}
