Students participated in multiple engaging literacy stations throughout the evening, including free book selections, a cozy silent reading room, creative bookmark-making stations, read-aloud sessions with therapy dogs, and even a photo booth complete with small plushies as keepsakes. The fact that students could attend completely free with afterschool transportation provided meant that barriers to participation were eliminated, allowing students who might not otherwise be able to attend to join us for this special celebration of reading.\r\nThe students' reactions when they first encountered the materials and activities were absolutely magical to witness. We had such an incredible turnout that we had to manage student check-in through multiple waves in the library – truly a wonderful problem to have for our first literacy event of this kind! Students were thrilled to discover they could take photos with friends while collecting small plushies, but the bookmark creation station became an unexpected highlight. Students expressed genuine gratitude that they weren't just receiving free books, but could also create personalized bookmarks to accompany them. The creativity that flowed from your donated materials was remarkable – students made multiple bookmarks, inspired by the examples and instructional videos we provided, and many worked collaboratively with friends to design unique keepsakes.\r\nThe success of this event has created ripple effects throughout our school community. Students rated the literacy night an impressive 4.8 out of 5 stars on their exit surveys, with many requesting that we host similar events again and expand our book station offerings. This enthusiastic response has sparked conversations among staff about creating similar engaging events for other content areas, particularly mathematics, where our students have also faced challenges. Your support didn't just provide materials for one evening – it demonstrated to our students that reading can be fun, social, and celebrated, setting the foundation for ongoing literacy initiatives that will benefit them throughout the school year.","fullyFundedDate":1740360709600,"projectUrl":"project/under-the-stars-magical-literacy-night/9122519/","projectTitle":"Under the Stars: Magical Literacy Night of Reading & Discovery!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mora","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9927875"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_96394","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":630,"numTeachers":58,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":79,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.7,"schoolId":96394,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about John T MaGee Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"John T MaGee Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/round-lake-area-county-district-116/john-t-magee-middle-school/96394"}
