The students have been able to have equal access to tools and resources for their learning. \r\n\r\nThe Chromebook chargers have helped immensely! Students are all able to access technology. \r\n\r\nThe highlighters in particular have been so useful in students annotating the texts that we read. This has helped them become a lot more engaged, allows them to color code for understanding, and have a deeper understanding of the text. Without these highlighters, we would not be able to annotate and reading comprehension would have taken a hit! \r\n\r\nThe pencil sharpener has also been a great help. It was always a struggle to get students pencil, but now every student is able to have a writing utensil. \r\n\r\nThis is true for everything else that was donated. Your donation has made a lasting impact on our classroom and has opened up new and exciting ways for students to take ownership of their physical activity, understand movement goals, and feel motivated to participate each day.\r\n\r\nWhen the pedometers arrived, my students were immediately curious. Many had never used one before, and they were fascinated to see how something so small could count their steps and track their activity. The excitement in the gym was electric. We spent a day learning how to use the pedometers, practicing how to clip them on properly, reset them, and understand the data they collect. Some students even challenged each other to \"step battles,\" encouraging friendly competition around fitness. One of my quieter students, who is often hesitant to engage in high-energy activities, lit up when he realized he could track his own movement and work at his own pace. These kinds of moments remind me how powerful the right tools can be.\r\n\r\nWe've incorporated the pedometers into a project called the \"Step Quest Challenge,\" where students track their steps over the course of a week during PE class. They set personal goals and use the step data to reflect on how different types of activity—walking, jogging, dancing, even jumping rope—affect their movement totals. We've had math connections, too, with students graphing their progress and calculating averages. Some of our students have even taken initiative to wear their pedometers during recess or walk home from school just to see their numbers go up. It's become more than just a gadget—it's a source of pride, ownership, and motivation.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these pedometers will continue to play a major role in our \"PE Quest\" model, where students work through themed fitness challenges and missions in small teams. As part of that program, students will use pedometers to complete team-based goals like \"Reach 10,000 Steps Together\" or \"Steps Around the World,\" where we calculate how far we can travel as a class based on step totals. We're also planning to involve students in leading their own fitness tracking,","fullyFundedDate":1741708229300,"projectUrl":"project/every-step-counts-pedometers-for-a-hea/9082356/","projectTitle":"\"Every Step Counts: Pedometers for a Healthier, Happier Classroom\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Carlson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9909165"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_93532","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":824,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":93,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"18.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.7,"schoolId":93532,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about John H Liechty Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"John H Liechty Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/john-liechty-middle-school/93532"}
