These items were made possible thanks to the generosity of donations, and they have made a big difference in keeping my classroom library organized, inviting, and easy for students to use. Before, books were sometimes hard to find or didn't have a consistent system, but now the bins and holders give everything a clear place. Students know exactly where to find the books they are interested in and how to return them when they are finished.\r\n\r\nThe book bins and magazine holders have especially helped by allowing me to sort books by genre, author, or reading level. This makes it much easier for students to browse and select a book that fits their needs. The labels on the bins provide a visual reminder of where each book belongs, encouraging independence and responsibility when it comes to choosing and putting away materials. Because of these donations, the library feels more structured and user-friendly for students.\r\n\r\nThe reading banner has also added a welcoming and motivating touch to our space. It creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that encourages students to see the library as a special place in the classroom. Together, these donated resources have not only improved the overall organization of the library but also made it a place students are excited to visit. Having everything neatly labeled and displayed has helped foster a love of reading while also teaching students the importance of keeping shared spaces tidy and well cared for.","fullyFundedDate":1751806305369,"projectUrl":"project/library-organization/9434182/","projectTitle":"Library Organization","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Farside","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7735645_orig.jpg?crop=1206,1205,x0,y393&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659662791029","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-farside"},{"teacherId":2997246,"projectId":9199765,"letterContent":"In my classroom, reading builds community. Our safe-space during reading looks like students sitting comfortably on my classroom carpet with their personal copy of a text. We ease in to each day's reading by recalling our text-so-far and making predictions. We share our excitement to find out what will happen next. \r\nThere is a learning goal, often to think about how a particular character is evolving. We consider this through the clues an author gives us. One way to do this is with a \"FAST\" Map. We use a four square model: in each quadrant, considering what the character is Feeling, how the character is behaving or Acting, what the character is Saying - aka quotations, and finally the Thinking, or internal dialogue going on in the background. This analysis provides multiple benefits: it allows us to comprehend the text at the reading level, but also consider how the writer of the text reveals information to a reader. The City of Ember series is science fiction and all students engage with the character's struggles in a changing world. It piques 5th graders interest, for sure. I would read aloud, stopping to discuss important events, and then students would work in groups to complete a team written FAST Map. We'd then share out verbally, around the room. Work with new vocabulary is embedded and provides a basis for understanding new terms in context. In addition, I would provide typed/written questions requiring citing text evidence as an independent component after all the above was completed. Donors Choose allowed me to provide students with the follow up text to City of Ember - The People of Sparks. This was an opportunity to completely independently read. Students took this book home for summer reading.","fullyFundedDate":1743475814868,"projectUrl":"project/readers-craving-book-2-in-the-city-of-em/9199765/","projectTitle":"Readers Craving Book 2 in the City of Ember Series!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Piccione","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2997246_orig.png?crop=737,737,x93,y71&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754331146975","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2997246"},{"teacherId":6825055,"projectId":9250692,"letterContent":"Thank you for making this project a reality.
