Many of my students learn best when they can see and interact with information, and the technology and materials you provided have made that possible every day. With access to a color printer, students can now work with vibrant diagrams, models, and data charts that make complex scientific ideas—like cell structures or energy transfer—much easier to understand. Instead of relying only on a screen or a textbook, students can annotate, highlight, and refer back to printed visuals as they learn.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is having tools that make their work feel meaningful and professional. Each student now has a science notebook where they record observations, build vocabulary, and reflect on their learning. Our interactive vocabulary wall has become a daily reference point, helping students strengthen both their science knowledge and literacy skills by seeing, using, and discussing academic language regularly. The addition of science books has also encouraged curiosity—students are independently reading about topics that interest them, from bacteria to how the world works.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled with organization or confidence have especially thrived with these resources. Having consistent notebooks, clear visuals, and printed supports has helped them participate more fully in discussions and written responses. I've seen students take greater ownership of their learning, ask deeper questions, and feel proud of their work. Your support has made science more accessible, engaging, and inspiring for all of my students, and I am deeply grateful for the impact you've had on our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1760629952907,"projectUrl":"project/6th-grade-science/9824710/","projectTitle":"6th-Grade Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ridenour","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9090267"},{"teacherId":7661704,"projectId":9816115,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom literacy project. When the Science of Reading learning games and new books arrived, my students were thrilled. They immediately wanted to explore the games, flip through the books, and ask when they could start using them. Many of my students struggle with reading and writing, so seeing their excitement—and confidence—grow right away was incredibly meaningful. They felt proud knowing these materials were chosen just for them.\r\n\r\nWe are using these resources daily during our rotational literacy block. Students work in small groups using the phonics and word-building games to strengthen decoding and spelling, while others read from the new classroom books and practice comprehension strategies we've learned together. One powerful moment was watching a below-grade-level reader successfully blend words during a game and then use those same words in a sentence during writing time. These tools have helped make grade-level texts more accessible and have turned practice into something engaging and fun rather than frustrating.\r\n\r\nNext, we are continuing to build reading fluency and writing stamina through daily writing activities, including sentence expansion, paragraph writing, and peer discussions tied to the new texts. My goal is for students to apply their growing skills across subjects as they move into more complex reading and writing tasks. Because of your generosity, our classroom truly feels like a Literacy Lab—one where every student is supported, challenged, and gaining confidence as a reader and writer. We utilize Building Thinking Classrooms, which requires a vertical writing space. These boards allow the students to be able to have that space when working in groups. \r\n The seat cushions have provided students with additional opportunities to move when a break for movement may not be available. Some of our students struggle to remain seated for a designated amount of time, and by using the seat cushion, they are able to get some of their energy out without disrupting the learning of others.\r\n Our reading program has a 30 min reading block where the students are able to read silently, while we work on skills. The books that we received allow more options for the students during this time. They have really enjoyed the My Weird School books. The historical books will be used when we start our Civil War unit in the spring. I know they all look forward to reading the new books we have. \r\n Finally, the SEL books will be utilized to help them learn more about themselves and their classmates. When they show responsibility, respect, and integrity the stickers will be a wonderful way to reward and acknowledge their good choices. \r\nWe are looking forward to discovering many more ways to use our new resources to continue improving our learning community and increasing a love for reading in our ELA and Social Studies classroom.. While we already had Edison robots, the new chargers allow multiple robots to be powered at the same time, which has dramatically improved how smoothly lessons run. Instead of losing instructional time waiting for robots to charge, students can jump right into coding, testing, and problem-solving. The headphones also support focused learning by allowing students to follow directions, tutorials, and coding challenges at their own pace without distractions.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students the most is being able to build and experiment using the LEGO blocks with the Edison robots they already love. Adding physical designs to their coding challenges makes learning feel more like exploration than an assignment. Students are eager to design attachments, create obstacle courses, and test how changes in their code affect the robot's movement. The ability to quickly recharge multiple robots means students can iterate, fail, adjust, and try again, which keeps motivation high and encourages perseverance.\r\n\r\nThis technology has been especially powerful for hands-on learners and students who don't always thrive in traditional classroom settings. Some of my quieter students have become more confident, stepping up to help peers troubleshoot code or redesign LEGO builds. I've also seen increased collaboration and engagement from students who benefit from movement and creativity.
