For the last 5 years, I have dreamed of taking at least one of the structural columns in our library space and turning it into a tree under which students could relax, get comfortable, and read to their heart's content. This year, thanks to your funding, we have finally made it happen.\r\n\r\nThis tree may have been my vision, but my library advisory students this year made the vision become a reality. They were the ones who approached administration about the idea, drew up the plans, and presented them (officially) to the principal. Once they received feedback on their plans, they were right back to work revising and thoughtfully redesigning certain features. Once plans were approved, they created a list of materials and we placed our order. After making an after-school schedule to complete the work, complete with help from members of our library advisory crew, we were able to get to work. It may have taken weeks and some trial and error, but in the end, we were all ecstatic with the results. What a wonderful learning and leadership opportunity is has been for all students involved!\r\n\r\nWe are very excited to share this new feature with all members of our middle school community. These devices are used daily by students throughout the school for research, writing, collaboration, assessments, creative projects, and access to important digital learning platforms. By increasing the number of reliable devices available to students, this project has helped ensure that more classes can fully participate in technology-based instruction without interruptions or limitations caused by outdated or insufficient equipment.\r\n\r\nThe new Chromebooks have created more equitable access to educational technology for all students while helping teachers deliver engaging, interactive lessons that build critical digital literacy and problem-solving skills. Students are now able to work more efficiently, collaborate more easily with classmates and teachers, and access online resources that enhance classroom learning. The additional devices have also helped reduce sharing issues and downtime, allowing instructional time to be used more effectively throughout the school day. With more than 250 students participating in our instrumental music program throughout the year, these instruments are being used daily in classes, rehearsals, performances, and festivals.\r\n\r\nPrior to this project, much of our percussion equipment was aging, worn down, or unreliable after years of heavy use. The new equipment has allowed students to rehearse more effectively and perform with greater confidence and musicality. The drum set, in particular, has had a major impact on our jazz band students by giving them access to an instrument that responds properly and helps them develop authentic jazz performance skills. The new bass drum and additional percussion equipment have also strengthened the sound and balance of our larger ensembles while exposing students to a wider variety of percussion techniques and instruments. The addition of new percussion equipment, auxiliary percussion instruments, bass clarinets, and a baritone saxophone has strengthened the overall sound of our ensembles while also allowing students to experience instruments that were previously unavailable or in very limited supply. With more than 250 students participating in our music program each year, these instruments are being used daily in rehearsals, lessons, concerts, and festival performances.\r\n\r\nMany students rely on school-owned instruments in order to participate in music, especially for larger and more specialized instruments that can be expensive or difficult for families to provide. These new instruments have helped remove barriers to participation and have created exciting new opportunities for students to explore different musical roles within the ensemble. Our percussion students now have access to a wider variety of instruments that better match the music we perform, while our woodwind and low reed sections have become stronger and more balanced. Students are excited to rehearse with equipment that sounds great, functions properly, and allows them to perform at their highest level. At its core, archery has built focus and concentration. It has also promoted patience and self-discipline. Progress in the archery unit has not happened instantly. Students have had to constantly practice proper form, consistency, and technique without getting frustrated and while having patience. \r\n\r\nAnother major benefit is confidence building. Archery is an individual sport where students can clearly see their progress. Archery has also been highly inclusive. Because it relies more on technique than physical strength or speed, it provides an opportunity for a wide range of students to succeed, including those who may feel less comfortable in more competitive or fast-paced sports. This can help students feel a greater sense of belonging and engagement in school activities.\r\n\r\nFinally, it has fostered responsibility. Safety is a top priority in archery, so students must follow rules, listen carefully, and be accountable for their actions. This creates a structured environment where mutual respect is essential.","fullyFundedDate":1769986542204,"projectUrl":"project/bullseye-basics-introduction-to-archery/10073518/","projectTitle":"Bullseye Basics-Introduction to Archery","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. VanDeventer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10424359"},{"teacherId":2146143,"projectId":9983322,"letterContent":"First of all, thank you, thank you! The laser engraver has been one of those amazing machines that have truly added so much to my classroom. I always want to expose students to more ways to bridge the gap between the physical and the digital. It's more difficult and more expensive than you might imagine. I've tried a CNC, but if students enter a .5\" engraving depth instead of .05\", bad things can happen. 3D printers are great, but it's slow, and 3d models can be hard to make. \r\n \r\n This laser engraver is perfect!
