For many of them, this is their very first experience reading a \"big kid\" book, and the excitement has been incredible. They feel proud, confident, and so grown-up carrying their own chapter book to our book club meetings.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students now have engaging, accessible stories that help them build stamina, vocabulary, and a deeper love for reading. Our book club has quickly become one of their favorite parts of the week—they cheer when it's time to read together! They've started making predictions, discussing characters, and sharing their favorite parts with one another in ways I've never seen before.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the chance to see themselves as real readers. Your support has created joyful learning moments that will stay with them far beyond first grade. Last year I checked out a set of books from the library and found that my students paid attention so much better when they had their own book in their hand. They took more ownership in what we were reading. Well, our school library only has a couple of class sets of books. This year I moved up to 4th grade with this same group of kids. I knew I wanted to start the year with a great class read along that was mature and would fit with my new 4th graders. We started Wonder the second week of school. We read it everyday after recess. As we started reading it, I would stop it and we talked about the different characters. We talked about how we thought Auggie was feeling starting school for the first time knowing kids were going to look at him. My kids learned empathy and what it meant to be a friend to all. It upset them when kids treated Auggie bad. We talked about if we thought there were more mean people in the world or more kind people. It is sad but the thought was there were more mean people. That made me sad but hopefullly as they continue to grow they will see that the world is filled with more kindness. I am hoping this will always be a book they remember when they are faced with decisions on how to treat others.","fullyFundedDate":1754542465009,"projectUrl":"project/the-wonderful-world-of-4th-grade/9447076/","projectTitle":"The WONDERful World of 4th Grade!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Batson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jagslovetoread"},{"teacherId":8926555,"projectId":9390606,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of my project, \"Setting the Stage for a Successful School Year.\" Your kindness has already made a huge difference in my classroom. My students love knowing exactly what's happening and where to find what they need, and these tools have set a positive tone for learning right from the start.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students feel valued and motivated to do their best. The writing prompts have been a big hit—they're fun and perfectly geared toward their age group, so the kids don't even realize I'm assessing their writing as they respond. The mesh zipper bags have been a huge help, especially at the beginning of the year when we were setting up routines. Having everything in its place made teaching procedures so much smoother. The file folders have already been a lifesaver, too. At our first data meeting, every child had a neat, organized folder with all their information ready to go—it was such a smooth process. In the past, I've used cheap paper folders that tore quickly, but these sturdy ones are holding up so well. Even though we've only had the supplies for two weeks, I can already see the difference they're making in keeping us organized and helping my students stay excited about learning.\r\n\r\nStarting the school year as a Title I teacher can be stressful, especially on my pocketbook. It is such a blessing to have others step in and help with the financial side of our classroom, especially when serving our low-income students. These centers have become an invaluable part of our instructional approach, providing engaging, hands-on learning opportunities that cater to a variety of learning styles.\r\n\r\nIn reading, the centers have supported students in developing critical literacy skills such as phonemic awareness, decoding, and vocabulary. By allowing students to engage with activities like word matching, sentence building, and comprehension task cards, we have observed noticeable improvements in their decoding and confidence. Similarly, in math, the printable centers have facilitated growth in foundational concepts such as number recognition, addition, and subtraction through interactive and repetitive practice. Students who previously struggled are now demonstrating higher levels of understanding and enthusiasm toward these subjects.\r\n\r\nThe creation and upkeep of these centers required essential resources, including ink and laminating pouches. The vibrant colors and durability afforded by these materials have made the activities visually appealing and reusable, ensuring long-term benefits. Laminated resources withstand daily handling by eager learners, while high-quality prints ensure clarity and engagement. The investment in these supplies has proven worthwhile as they allow the centers to be utilized by multiple groups of students over time, maximizing both their educational value and cost-effectiveness.\r\n\r\nIn summary, the printable centers have played a pivotal role in fostering student progress, transforming their learning experiences, and boosting confidence in reading and math. Thank you for supporting the resources and initiatives that make such impactful programs possible.","fullyFundedDate":1737006223957,"projectUrl":"project/differentiating-one-center-at-a-time/9052497/","projectTitle":"Differentiating ONE Center at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Garza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2635806_orig.jpg?crop=662,662,x417,y496&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736741067325","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2635806"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_14008","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":549,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":72,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"12.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":69.4,"schoolId":14008,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jensen Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jensen Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/pasadena-independent-school-district/jensen-elementary-school/14008"}
