One of my students was in the room as well and she helped me unpack them. I rearranged my room a bit to make the space the most efficient. The next morning when the students walked in and saw the changes, a couple of them were eager to try out the floor seats. During work time, one student wanted to get away from his group so he could focus on what he needed to do without getting distracted. This happens more now that I have additional non-desk seating.\r\n\r\nAnother day in my Calculus class, students needed to use the area formula for an equilateral triangle but in geometry they only focused on the general triangle area formula. So I split the groups up and sent them to different white boards and told them to draw an equilateral triangle on the board and determine the area formula for it. The conversations were incredible and the collaboration was fun to watch.\r\n\r\nI have been surprised that none of my neurodivergent learners have used the standing desks but they are getting used daily with a couple of my freshmen Algebra 1 students. Some days they stand and some days they sit on a taller chair. During group work, I make them return to their groups but when it's individual work time, they like to stand at the back.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for giving my students the opportunity to move around and get comfortable while learning, studying and collaborating. I think the shift from the stereotypical classroom desks to a more flexible environment is not only beneficial to our neurodivergent learners but to all of our students.","fullyFundedDate":1738684299342,"projectUrl":"project/why-fit-in-when-you-were-born-to-stand/9013382/","projectTitle":"Why Fit in When You Were Born to Stand Out?","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lauer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2121778"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74763","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1684,"numTeachers":79,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":60,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":58.3,"schoolId":74763,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jefferson High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jefferson High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/bloomington-public-school-district-271/jefferson-high-school/74763"}
