Our conference room is an often used space for meeting as a school team, as well as, meeting with families and students. The supplies provided by this project are building a space that welcomes our students, families, and staff into this space. \r\n\r\nAfter setting up the space with the new supplies, I have already heard from many people that this room is a significantly more functional space. The coloring books, quiet books, fidgets, and carpet squares allow students and younger family members to join this meeting space with the tools they need to be successful in it. The fidgets can and will also be used by parents, families, and staff during meetings. \r\n\r\nThe storage cupboards create a much needed warmth to the space with the added bonus of storage. They allow us to keep the items that belong in this room within this room in a neat and organized manner. \r\n\r\nThe desk organizers and meeting materials are already being put to great use to keep us on time and ensure that families and children who enter this space have the materials necessary. \r\n\r\nLastly, the framed art picture frames are such an exciting addition to this space. Jefferson is home to countless artists who now have a space in the conference room to regularly share and display their latest work of art.\r\n\r\nPublic Schools, including Jefferson Elementary, are extremely lucky to have such as strong and supportive community. We have been able to add color changing lights to the drop down ceiling and soft hanging lamps to our small group areas. This has not only been a benefit to my students with visual impairments, it has also created a sense of peace within our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe students especially like that the lights can change colors. We use them to help highlight our student of the day by changing the lights to coordinate with the student color groups. They know when it is their color group, they get to be the helpers for the day. They also like that there is a wide enough seat area for fourth grade sized kids 🙂 \r\n\r\nI can't tell how happy it makes me to look out at students independently learning while they rock gently away. We were able to use the materials that you sponsored to add books, games, art supplies, and a warm and inviting rug to the space. The room that we use to provide in-school counseling services was formerly uninviting, lacking supplies, and not well-suited to be a positive space for the therapeutic process to take place. With the support of our donors, we were able to change the space into a warm and inviting space, with the supplies needed for our counselors to facilitate therapy well.\r\n When the students saw the space, they were absolutely blown away. We had so many kids who were thrilled to get to experience the space and the new therapy tools. Because my role is very behind the scenes, several students did not know I was connected to the room or the renovation. It was so fun to have them tell me all about the space as if I wouldn't have known about it and even to give me tours of it too. We will continue to use the space and listen to student and counselor feedback to keep updating the space and tools as needed.
