My students spent months learning melodies, harmonies, lyrics, choreography, and blocking. They knew their stuff, but then they had to actually go on stage and show it off to all of their family and friends. This took so much courage, but it was much easier when they were able to don a costume and look the part.\r\n\r\nFor these children, this musical is a right of passage. It teaches them more than just notes and dance steps. It teaches them teamwork and diligence. Most importantly, it teaches them that they can do hard things. \r\n\r\nMoving on to Middle School is an exciting time for kids, but it is also a little intimidating. Working hard for a culminating event like their musical, Rock Around the 50s, proves to them that they can succeed. They can do hard things, and with their leather jackets and poodle skirts, they did it in style!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for helping provide amazing costumes to enable these students to create an amazing memory, build important life skills, and catapult them into Middle School with confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1741612389185,"projectUrl":"project/fifth-grade-musical-rock-around-the-50/9107503/","projectTitle":"Fifth Grade Musical - Rock Around the 50s","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9920667"},{"teacherId":9629788,"projectId":8564235,"letterContent":"This year I was fortunate enough to become Dean of students at a newly founded charter elementary school in Colorado. Funding for charter schools is not always easy to come by, that is why I was so excited and thankful to be selected by Donors Choose!! As dean, my primary focus is to provide a positive school climate and to manage student behaviors, so I am sure you can understand how important it was for me to create an atmosphere that encourages and supports our students to reach their full potential, as well as, to help them become their best selves. Therefore, I cannot fully express the immense gratitude I feel for your generous donation to my project \"Managing emotions: I am more than my behaviors\", as your funding has enabled me to provide my students with the support they need in both endeavors. \r\n\r\nWhen the donations began arriving, I was filled with excitement as I knew the impact these items would have on the students. In fact, not long after I received your donation, I had a newly enrolled 1st grader who was having an especially difficult morning because she was missing her parents and was able to utilize the many items that your donations provided to help her calm down. There is also the set of twins, who both have autism and a seizure disorder that exacerbates when they are experiencing anxiety and have often come to my office to recalibrate. Additionally, there are always the students K through 5 who just need to take a beat to figure things out. Both students and teachers alike come to my office when they need to decompress, oftentimes they sit and hug the weighted stuffed animal or fiddle with the sensory toys just to relax.\r\n\r\nThe donations that were provided to us may not seem like much to some, but they meant the world to me and my students. Being new to this role, it has been extremely important to me to ensure that each student feels that they are seen and heard, and that our school is a safe and welcoming environment for them. Your donation has aided me in providing such an environment in a way that truly impacts their lives and education.
