This tool has made our lessons more dynamic and has truly supported the needs of our diverse learners.\r\n\r\n\r\nYour kindness has created more opportunities for my students to feel seen, supported, and successful. Microbits was not part of the curriculum but our instructor wanted to share some extra tools with us. I immediately created the donors choose project, not expecting it to be funded. Once it was funded I did struggle to figure out when to incorporate this. I had so many ideas but within the structure of a school day it's hard to do the so-called \"extras\".\r\n\r\nI should not have worried. When we were working on our science fair projects, a number of students came upon projects that utilized microbits! They had to figure out the coding and the rest of the materials and I was able to provide the most expensive and necessary portion. \r\n\r\nOur two stand out projects that utilized micro bits were a solar panel that was coded to track sunlight across the sky (aka a moving heat lamp), and a device that showed temperature and humidity readings. \r\n\r\nI attached photos of the solar panel project. \r\n\r\nWithout your support, the students would not have had the opportunity to engage in engineering design and coding in such a meaningful way, and would have had to find a more traditional science experiment. In this way they were able to try something that interested them and teach me something in the process.\r\n\r\nI also feel it is meaningful to add that these were sixth graders doing this work, mostly on their own!","fullyFundedDate":1732331757926,"projectUrl":"project/microbit-coding-in-our-science-lab/8612193/","projectTitle":"MicroBit Coding in our Science Lab","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Travis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2492767_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1491099726913","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rtravis"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_726","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1196,"numTeachers":83,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":40,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":24,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.2,"schoolId":726,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Intermediate School 281 Joseph B Cavallaro on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Intermediate School 281 Joseph B Cavallaro","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/is-281-joseph-b-cavallaro/726"}
