We immediately put everything to use in our daily routines and class projects. The pencils and copy paper have been especially helpful for writing assignments and hands-on math practice, while the glue sticks are being used in interactive notebooks that help students organize their learning. The dry erase markers have made our small-group whiteboard work much smoother, allowing students to share and explain their thinking clearly. The tissues, wipes, and sanitizing spray have also made a big difference in keeping our classroom clean and everyone healthy, especially during busy school days.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up with excitement—they couldn't wait to start using them. They were thankful and amazed that people outside our classroom cared about their learning. With these resources, we're now working on a collaborative project where students use the copy paper and glue sticks to create visual models and written explanations of key concepts we've been studying. The dry erase markers are helping them practice and share their ideas before finalizing their work. Thanks to these generous donations, our classroom feels more prepared, organized, and energized—students are taking ownership of their learning and proud of the space we've created together.","fullyFundedDate":1746785592580,"projectUrl":"project/keeping-our-classroom-clean-and-ready-to/9244125/","projectTitle":"Keeping Our Classroom Clean and Ready to Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Castillo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8746917_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762400016633","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8746917"},{"teacherId":9401450,"projectId":8850292,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting the MS 136/Sunset Park Prep birding club aka the Sunset Birders! Your generous donations have purchased us enough binoculars, so that every student who comes to club is able to have their own pair to use. The birding books that your donations provided have helped us grow our identification skills and learn all about the birds we encounter on our walks. \r\n\r\nMost of our birding takes place in Greenwood Cemetery, a short walk from our school. With 478 acres to explore and over 400 species of birds seasonally, we are in birding paradise! With the supplies provided by your funding, we have been able to take full advantage of the bird watching in one of our City's best green spaces. \r\n\r\nWe are extremely grateful for all your help in getting our little club get started. There are over 30 students who come to birding club, and our numbers are growing! We have a waitlist each week! For us, being a part of Sunset Birders is more than developing our practice of bird watching. It is also about learning how to exist in nature, even when living in urban spaces. It is about creating a safe and inclusive community, where everyone can enjoy the outdoors. It is about challenging norms, getting outside, and having fun! \r\n\r\nThank you once again for your support! The dry erase boards have been a huge hit during math lessons, allowing students to quickly solve problems, show their thinking, and get immediate feedback. The rulers are helping them with measurement activities and geometry lessons, making learning both hands-on and precise. The label maker and laminator have helped me create durable, clearly labeled classroom materials that students can use all year long. The wipes and paper towels have also helped us keep our workspace clean and ready for the next activity, giving students a sense of pride and responsibility for our classroom environment.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were thrilled—they immediately started using the dry erase boards to write and share their answers during our lesson. They were especially curious about the laminator and label maker, asking how they worked and what we could create with them. Our next steps include using the laminated materials for interactive math and reading centers that will rotate throughout the week, allowing students to review key skills in a fun, reusable way. Thanks to these generous donations, our classroom feels more organized, engaging, and collaborative—students are eager to learn, take care of their materials, and make the most of every new opportunity these resources provide.","fullyFundedDate":1668721375558,"projectUrl":"project/clean-classroom-where-learning-happens/6883244/","projectTitle":"Clean Classroom: Where Learning Happens","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Castillo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8746917_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762400016633","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8746917"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_890","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":474,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":83,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.2,"schoolId":890,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about MS 136 Charles O Dewey on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"MS 136 Charles O Dewey","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/is-136-charles-o-dewey/890"}
