Because of your kindness and generosity, my 5th grade students now have access to a wonderful collection of books that they will be able to use throughout the school year across multiple subjects. These books will become an important part of our classroom library and will provide my students with opportunities to read, explore, learn, and connect with new ideas every day.\r\n\r\nOne of the things I am most excited about is how these books can be incorporated into our ELA, science, and social studies blocks. In ELA, students will be able to use the books to strengthen their reading skills, practice comprehension, make connections, analyze characters and ideas, and discover new genres and topics that interest them. In science and social studies, the books will give students another way to explore the content we are learning in class. Being able to provide students with books connected to our curriculum will help make our lessons more engaging and allow students to see that reading is not something that only happens during ELA—it is a skill that can help them learn about every part of the world around them.\r\n\r\nI am also especially grateful that many of the books include social-emotional learning (SEL) components. At the 5th grade level, students are experiencing so many changes as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Books can provide a safe and meaningful way for students to explore topics such as empathy, friendship, perseverance, problem-solving, relationships, handling challenges, understanding different perspectives, and making positive choices. Through reading and discussing these stories, students can learn important lessons about themselves and others while developing the skills they need both inside and outside of the classroom.\r\n\r\nMy goal is to create a classroom environment where my students feel comfortable, supported, and excited to learn. Having a variety of books available will help me continue building that environment while giving students more opportunities to choose books that spark their curiosity and interests. I hope these books will encourage students who already love reading to continue growing as readers while also helping students who may not consider themselves \"readers\" find a book or topic that captures their attention.\r\n\r\nYour donation is much more than a collection of books. You are providing my students with opportunities to explore new subjects, develop stronger literacy skills, build empathy, and become more confident learners. These books will be read, discussed, shared, and enjoyed throughout this school year and will continue to benefit my students for years to come.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students, supporting their education, and helping me provide resources that encourage both academic and personal growth. It is also a place where I can pull books for small groups to work together, collaborate, grow as readers and learners, and develop a love of reading. \r\n\r\nThis group of texts, specifically, has reached the hands of students who thirst for historical fiction texts, as well as reluctant readers. The students this past school year dove in these high interest texts nearly immediately. A big thanks to you for providing these novels for our classroom! \r\n\r\nOne of my main goals as an educator is to spark interest in readers. Ultimately, I want to develop \"lifelong readers and learners.\" These novels, from varying genres, are helping to do just that. \"Guys Read\" texts are providing short stories that several reluctant readers are now loving. Mysteries, realistic fiction, and historical fiction are flying off the shelves to be borrowed for free choice reading time. \r\n\r\nWith the addition of these novels many students are choosing to read as early finishers more than ever.
