Thanks to your donations, our classroom has become a more engaging, calming, and student-centered space. When my students first opened the box and saw the snacks, earphones, and coloring supplies—colored pencils, crayons, and markers—their faces lit up. Many of them come to school without basic supplies or even breakfast, so these resources made them feel truly cared for and seen.\r\n\r\nWe've already been putting everything to great use! The earphones have made a huge difference during our independent language learning sessions. My English learners use them for listening activities, pronunciation practice, and vocabulary games on the computer. With these, they're able to focus better and build confidence in their English skills.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting projects we completed with your help was writing and illustrating our own bilingual children's books. The students poured their hearts into creating stories that reflect their cultures, experiences, and imaginations. They used the coloring supplies to bring their books to life with vibrant, detailed illustrations. It was amazing to watch how focused and proud they were during this project—and even more special to see their joy when they shared their books with classmates and younger students.\r\n\r\nAnd the snacks—what a blessing. Many of my students are newcomers adjusting to a new country and language. Being able to offer a snack during breaks has helped them stay energized, focused, and ready to learn. It's a small act that's made a big impact on their well-being.\r\n\r\nUp next, we're building a classroom library of student-created books, complete with audio recordings so others can listen while they read. The earphones will continue to be a key part of this, helping students record and listen to each other's stories in both English and their home languages.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making all of this possible. You've helped create a classroom where students feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn—and where their voices and stories truly matter.","fullyFundedDate":1736013435747,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-and-colors-for-learning/8761092/","projectTitle":"Snacks and Colors for Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Higuera-Munoz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5958988_orig.jpg?crop=1440,1440,x0,y158&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699385797771","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5958988"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_32615","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2027,"numTeachers":77,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":94,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"26.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.2,"schoolId":32615,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Indio High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Indio High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/desert-sands-unified-school-district/indio-high-school/32615"}
