I ordered tools that promote writing that also serve as a useful fidget during instruction. It was remarkable to see the engagement the first day I brought out the tools - to see students using the appropriate grasp to practice using the magnetic boards or LCD boards to make pre-writing strokes.\r\nI have been working with a paraprofessional that is working with students to use the notebooks ordered so that they can journal everyday - and she has been so excited to share the progress. We offer students a chance to write, draw or scribble what they would like to. Then we ask on their communication device what they are writing, and we will comment underneath their drawing what they are intending to write. It has been so cool to see what they have created!!!\r\n\r\nThank you for giving me the unique tools I need to to engage complex communicators in literacy and writing.","fullyFundedDate":1731968661640,"projectUrl":"project/tools-for-emergent-writers/8752008/","projectTitle":"Tools for Emergent Writers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gokey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8470103_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1653143660605","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sara-gokey"},{"teacherId":8470103,"projectId":8381828,"letterContent":"I have been using the iPad with 4 different communication programs: TD Snap, Saltillo Touchchat, Proloquo and Proloquo2go. A strategy used to teach emergent communicators how to use a communication device is called Partner Aided Language. That is where I model how to find words and use a device - without expectation of the student using it. \r\nAlong with the programs, I have a strap and case on my device and wear it all day long. This is the first time I have ever worn a device - and it has come in handy in countless occasions. At the beginning of the year I was able to communicate what was next in the schedule and show students where we were going using the visuals in the communication device. It decreased behaviors as well as increased learning how to use the communication device.\r\n\r\nI just can't thank you enough for providing me with a tool that I use all day every day with my students!","fullyFundedDate":1718913533935,"projectUrl":"project/access-to-aac/8381828/","projectTitle":"Access to AAC","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gokey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8470103_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1653143660605","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sara-gokey"},{"teacherId":8472427,"projectId":8554580,"letterContent":"Our school would like to thank you for your generous donation of new and exciting books for our Media Center! We even had to have students do rock-paper-scissors for many of the books! \r\nThis joy to read a high interest book is what you provided.
