It shows students that their emotions matter, that they have autonomy in choosing how to respond to challenges, and that their classroom is a supportive community where mistakes and struggles are part of learning. For some of my students who have experienced environments where their emotions were dismissed or punished, this can be a powerful shift. The calming space normalizes self-care and models healthy coping strategies, reducing stigma around taking breaks for mental or emotional well-being. As a result, classroom culture becomes more compassionate and inclusive.\r\n\r\nMy students have had fun helping to open the boxes of \"gifts\".
