Their final one-pager posters reflected not only comprehension but also personal insight, as students connected the story to broader social issues and their own experiences.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is a collaborative and reflective process. Students work in small groups to annotate, question, and discuss texts, often drawing connections between literature and current events. This unit sparked meaningful conversations about racism, privilege, and empathy, helping students better understand perspectives different from their own. Many expressed a stronger sense of compassion toward others. These books didn't just build literacy, they helped shape students into more thoughtful, informed, and empathetic individuals. Sports are a great way to keep kids out of trouble and in school. The athletes on my team are hard working and dedicated students and these experiences and memories will last a life time.
