You could have given to a ton of STEM projects or to school athletics or a myriad of other worthy projects. However, you chose to make an impact at our small, Bronx school by donating your resources to our project to build our scene shop. You saw that a high school theatre department is more than face paints and costumes but a vehicle to teach our children practical math, decision-making, and teamwork—all skills that are easily transferable to the working world. Your generous donation purchased a table saw, a circular saw, and cordless drills that will help us in our future efforts to build working stage sets at our school for years to come.\r\n\r\nAt present, our eager team of students have hit the ground running in order to build Hollywood flats (reusable set pieces) for our upcoming production of PUFFS! So far we, with a generous grant of lumber, have built two wall units and are working on door units, and platforms/risers. This could not happen without you and your commitment to education in the Arts.\r\nDuring this holiday season, we have a lot to be thankful for. It's donors like you who make sure that the Arts stay a vibrant part of public education. From me, my students, and High School for Contemporary Arts, we give you our most heartfelt gratitude!\r\n\r\nSee you at the Theatre!","fullyFundedDate":1755717309890,"projectUrl":"project/putting-it-together-help-us-build-our-t/9432513/","projectTitle":"Putting It Together: Help Us Build Our Theatre Program","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Sermonia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7894958"},{"teacherId":129481,"projectId":4142720,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our basketball program at Evander Childs. Even though some time has passed since this project was completed, the impact of your generosity has been lasting and deeply meaningful for our young men.\r\n\r\nThe basketballs you helped us purchase became the foundation for several seasons of development, discipline, and growth. With them, our players were finally able to train with consistent, high-quality equipment — something many of them had never experienced before. The improvement in ball-handling, shooting, and team confidence was visible almost immediately.\r\n\r\nThat momentum carried us to multiple playoff appearances, including a Final Four run — one of the proudest moments in our school's recent athletic history. More importantly, several of the students who trained with these basketballs have since gone on to earn college basketball opportunities and, even more significantly, to graduate from college. Many of these young men were the first in their families to earn a degree.\r\n\r\nEvery one of those steps forward traces back to small but powerful supports like yours. You helped us build a program that our students believe in — a place where they feel valued, supported, and capable of achieving something bigger than themselves.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in them. Thank you for investing in our community. Although some time has passed since this project was completed, the impact on our students has been real, lasting, and transformative.\r\n\r\nThe 360-degree cameras you helped us acquire opened opportunities our students had never experienced before. For many of our Bronx students, exploring the cultural and historical spaces of New York City — and capturing them through immersive photography — is something they rarely have access to. These cameras gave them the chance to see their own city through a creative lens and to tell stories from their community in a new, meaningful way.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, more of our digital arts and coding students were able to participate hands-on as photographers, content creators, and VR developers. Instead of just learning about digital media in theory, they were able to actively produce real projects that represented their neighborhoods, their identities, and their voices. Several of our students went on to build portfolios that they used for college applications, internships, or specialized arts programs.\r\n\r\nYour support helped our students understand that they belong in the world of technology and creative media — fields where representation matters and opportunities can change lives.
