Using playdough, straws, and connectors, they built everything from ice cream cones and sunglasses to beach chairs and surfboards. It was such a fun way to combine creativity with engineering as they designed, tested, and proudly shared their projects with classmates.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials were first introduced, the excitement in the room was contagious. Students couldn't stop talking about what they wanted to build, and they jumped right into experimenting with the new supplies. Many of them had never used connectors before, and it was amazing to see their faces light up as their ideas started to come to life. The energy and joy made it clear that these resources will spark endless curiosity and engagement.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students will continue using these materials during STEM lessons and design challenges. They will tackle projects like building towers that can withstand a \"wind test\" to learn about forces and motion. These activities not only connect to the engineering design process but also encourage teamwork, perseverance, and critical thinking. I am so grateful to have these resources to inspire my students' creativity and problem-solving skills.","fullyFundedDate":1744384620143,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-future-innovators-supporting/9248183/","projectTitle":"Empowering Future Innovators: Supporting STEAM Education for Tomorrow's Leaders","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shults","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9716731_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726232321661","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9716731"},{"teacherId":7829250,"projectId":8628948,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom! Although we have only had the supplies for a short time, we can already see the incredible impacts they have had on our children's learning. \r\n\r\nOn a typical day, students are given a math task during math instruction. They are then prompted to solve the problem with a partner so that they can learn mathematical skills and concepts through discovery. We have had this lesson structure throughout the year, but the whiteboards have enhanced this by allowing us to create vertical work stations. The easels are placed so that the children can get up and walk to their spaces and continue to stand while they work. In addition, this structure has given us the flexibility to randomly assign partners to the students each day. \r\n\r\nThese seemingly small changes have made big differences! For one, learners get a quick movement break while remaining focused on a task. Another benefit is that the structure lends itself well to teaching and implementing the STEAM design process, which is a big emphasis for our school. Throughout the tasks, students walk through the steps of asking questions, imagining and planning solutions, creating solutions, improving work, and presenting ideas to solve a problem. Having students move to stations in the midst of the process has grouped the framework into small chunks for our young learners. Perhaps the most obvious and impactful difference, however, is that students are much more excited to complete math tasks. The children ask, \"Are we doing our stations today?\" When students worked at their desks, it was common for one student to do the bulk of the work, even though they were asked to share responsibilities. Now, though, students ensure they are participating because they want to, which is more helpful for more children's learning. \r\n\r\nOur classes are truly thankful for your help in supplying these tools for math instruction. We cannot wait to see the further advantages of this math structure. We could not say thank you enough!","fullyFundedDate":1738251295646,"projectUrl":"project/stand-tall-learn-big/9084526/","projectTitle":"Stand Tall, Learn Big!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9845833_orig.jpg?crop=2734,2734,x0,y300&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738098400816","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9845833"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_92239","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":457,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":89,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":78.4,"schoolId":92239,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hopewell Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hopewell Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/bradley-county-school-district/hopewell-elementary-school/92239"}
