They have all kinds of excuses to avoid reading. I believe they have the ability to read, they just need a hook and a shorter book to finish. Finishing a book builds confidence that they can read a whole book, and reading it wasn't so bad or hard, and they are more likely to pick another book.\r\n\r\nThese high interest books feature low vocabulary and plenty of white space with an easily accessible font. Students who are dyslexic will be able to read these books with more confidence. Students who struggle to track words on the page will have an easier time staying on the same line without using a bookmark or finger to point. \r\n\r\nThese short books, or novellas as I call them in the library, will boost reading confidence without being an obvious easy reader book.","fullyFundedDate":1764469694773,"projectUrl":"project/high-interest-books-for-reluctant-high-s/9521090/","projectTitle":"High Interest Books for Reluctant High School Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Blas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8012445_orig.jpg?crop=1379,1379,x254,y102&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1629826658294","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msblas"},{"teacherId":10349211,"projectId":9892855,"letterContent":"First of all, thank you so much for your donations on making my class wish come true, to have additional four (4) microscopes in my Science classroom. My Biology students were so thrilled to use and have their own microscope to be utilized in our laboratory rather than sharing it with a partner or a group of three (3). They are enabled to practice and hone their skills in manipulating the compound microscope and at the same time enjoying the things they can see what their naked eyes can't see. \r\n\r\nRecently, my students observed the plant cells (onion) and animal cells (their own cheek cells). First, they practiced making their own specimens by staining cells, iodine for onion and crystal violet for cheek cells. Then, they viewed the specimens under the microscopes from scanning objective lens to high power objective lens. Lastly, they tried to sketch the onion cells and cheek cells and compare and contrast their structures together. They enjoyed most viewing the cheek cells because these cells were derived from their own body. Next lab will be viewing organisms from pond water!","fullyFundedDate":1766085202181,"projectUrl":"project/charter-school-in-need-of-additional-lig/9892855/","projectTitle":"Charter School in Need of Additional Light Microscopes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gomez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10349211"},{"teacherId":8012445,"projectId":9295161,"letterContent":"I am ready to hand these books to students and teachers as soon as they return to school!
