It is a safe space they recognized they needed.\r\n\r\nWe introduced the corner using the books My Body Sends a Signal and STOP and Read This Book, which helped students understand how their bodies and feelings are connected and how to use breathing, grounding, and reflection strategies. Students now practice identifying how they feel using the Feelings Wheel pillow, and then choose a solution from the \"Solutions Wall\" to help them calm down or feel better. Whether that's hugging the weighted stuffed bear, using a fidget tool, or taking a quiet brain break.\r\n\r\nOne powerful moment came when a student, who normally shuts down during stressful situations, quietly walked to the corner, used the breathing strategies from the poster, and returned to the group ready to participate, without needing adult intervention. That kind of self-regulation is exactly what we're hoping to nurture.\r\n\r\nYour donation gave us more than supplies. It gave us a space for students to feel seen, heard, and supported. Thank you for helping us create a classroom where emotional health is valued just as much as academic success.","fullyFundedDate":1733170366206,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-calming-corner-supporting-em/8623439/","projectTitle":"Creating a Calming Corner: Supporting Emotional Well-Being in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Arana","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9646340_orig.png?crop=408,408,x128,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723336753183","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9646340"},{"teacherId":9646340,"projectId":8761255,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donation, our classroom has been buzzing with joy and excitement! The mini animal erasers and scented bookmarks have become more than just supplies, they've turned into powerful tools for motivation, classroom management, and building a positive reading culture.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the erasers, their faces lit up with surprise and excitement. \"Desk pets!\" they shouted, immediately giving names and personalities to their new mini animal friends. These little erasers are now used as part of our classroom reward system. Students earn desk pets for showing kindness, working hard, or showing growth and they take so much pride in earning them! They even write journal entries about their desk pets' \"adventures,\" giving us fun opportunities to practice writing with voice and creativity.\r\n\r\nThe scented bookmarks were just as popular. Each time students finish a book or show great reading stamina, they get to choose a bookmark and they absolutely love choosing between chocolate, watermelon, marshmallow, and bubble gum! One student said, \"It smells like a treat and it helps me remember my page!\"\r\n\r\nA recent highlight was our \"Reading Picnic,\" where students brought their books, picked a scented bookmark, and read independently with their desk pet \"buddy.\" It made reading feel fun, special, and personal; especially for reluctant readers.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, these simple items have helped us build strong reading habits, celebrate effort, and create joyful learning moments. Next, we're launching a classroom reading challenge, where students track their reading using their bookmarks and earn accessories for their desk pets as they reach milestones. It's a small but mighty way to turn learning into something magical.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your generosity, you've made our classroom a brighter, more joyful place to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1733332381295,"projectUrl":"project/rewards-to-motivate-readers-and-writers/8761255/","projectTitle":"Rewards to Motivate Readers and Writers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Arana","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9646340_orig.png?crop=408,408,x128,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723336753183","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9646340"},{"teacherId":9646340,"projectId":9042543,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, every one of my students now owns a personal copy of Charlotte's Web in their strongest language—and it has made an incredible difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nWith these books, we've been able to introduce key reading skills such as identifying character traits, tracking cause and effect, making inferences, and discussing theme and author's craft. We also used the book to model how to respond to literature through writing and discussion, and how to support ideas with text evidence—skills that are essential for both language development and academic success.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is now full of joyful engagement. Students read along as I read aloud, annotate their books with sticky notes, participate in partner discussions, and complete reflection journals after each chapter. Because the book is theirs to keep, they have also been reading it at home—many with siblings or parents, which deepens family literacy and helps them take pride in their reading progress.\r\n\r\nOne student, who previously struggled to stay engaged during reading time, now races to his seat to follow along and volunteers to share his thoughts—especially when we talk about Wilbur's feelings or Charlotte's courage. Another student has started writing her own animal stories at home, inspired by the book's rich language and heartfelt themes. Several bilingual students are even comparing the English and Spanish versions on their own, growing their vocabulary in both languages.\r\n\r\nThis project has truly opened doors—not just to a classic story, but to meaningful, confidence-building learning experiences. Thank you for giving my students the chance to fall in love with reading in a language that lets them feel seen and supported. They were eager to earn their rewards, and it has truly enhanced our positive classroom culture.
