Your generosity helped us bring in several key items—like the standing desks, wobble boards, and a soft rug—that have already made a meaningful difference in how students feel when they walk into this space. These pieces weren't flashy, but they were powerful.\r\n\r\nThe kids LOVE the flexible seating and movement options.\r\nThey go straight for the wobble boards during short breaks, and the standing desks have become the surprise hit — especially with students who really struggle to sit still, or find themselves nodding off. Instead of fidgeting restlessly or nodding in the quietness, they can channel that energy into something productive, and wobbling helps perk them back up if they're sleepy. It's a small shift, but it changes the whole tone of the room.\r\n\r\nAnd the rug?\r\nThat fluffy thing has become the unofficial \"calm-down corner.\" Students sit on it, stretch out on it, or just kind of melt into it when they need a reset, or just for a different way to do their work. It's amazing how something so simple can soften the energy of the space.\r\n\r\nNow, about the motivational posters...\r\nIn full transparency, we didn't have enough to cover these massive white brick walls (they are... a look). It still feels a little like a low-security facility in here, but the kids helped me hang the posters, and that moment alone was worth the whole project. They took a break, collaborated with each other, and chose where things should go — and they were proud of themselves. For a group that often feels disconnected from school, that was a big deal.\r\n\r\nSo while the room isn't \"Pinterest ready\" yet, the pieces you helped us purchase are already doing exactly what they were meant to do:\r\ngive students a space that feels safer, calmer, and more like a correction and reset than proof of their life's destiny and amoral character.\r\n\r\nStudents notice these small touches.\r\nThey feel the difference.\r\nAnd that's because of you.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in kids you'll never meet and this brand-new teacher figuring it out one day at a time. Your support means more than you know.","fullyFundedDate":1755203897769,"projectUrl":"project/turning-iss-into-a-space-for-success/9517238/","projectTitle":"Turning ISS Into a Space for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thakker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10101045_orig.png?crop=596,596,x2,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754999544370","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10101045"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_19198","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2382,"numTeachers":125,"percentFrplEligible":27,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":75,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"19.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":38.5,"schoolId":19198,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Homestead High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Homestead High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/indiana/southwest-allen-county-school-district/homestead-high-school/19198"}
