For their first exposure, students used Dash to draw a shape that was pre-programmed into the app. They saw that the coding blocks were very similar to the coding program they use in PLTW and were itching to do their own coding. However, our focus today was using Dash to draw the shape in order to find the perimeter. After Dash finished the shape, students used a meter stick to measure the side lengths and compare them to the side lengths in the code. Then they added the side lengths to find the perimeter.\r\n\r\nStudents' first exposure to Dash was when they arrived at the classroom to find me driving it in the hallway! They were so excited that they asked what it was and how we were going to use it in the classroom. It definitely sparked a lot of interest. I have even had students ask if they can drive it as a reward for repeated good behavior!\r\n\r\nLater this year, students will code Dash to draw a shape with a specific perimeter. We will also use Dash in Lego Club. Students will design a claw or shovel to attach to Dash.
