Being able to see their work clearly helps them focus on the learning rather than struggling with faded or dried-out supplies. The Teachers Pay Teachers resources purchased through this project have added engaging visuals and interactive activities that support our literacy and math instruction and meet the diverse needs of my students.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were once hesitant to participate have especially benefited from these materials. Since receiving the Conscious Discipline resources, my students have been using them daily to build empathy, emotional awareness, and strong relationships. One powerful moment happened during a conflict between two students. Instead of assigning a consequence, we used the Time Machine strategy to pause and reflect. The students talked through what happened, how each person felt, and what they wished they had done differently. They then practiced going back in time to choose a kinder response and repaired the relationship together in a restorative way.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were excited and curious. They immediately recognized the visuals and tools as belonging to them. Many students wanted to practice naming feelings, role playing problem solving, and explaining the Brain State Model to one another. Learning that everyone moves through the same brain states helped students better understand classmates who think, act, or feel differently than they do. We also use class jobs to foster community and compassion, as each student contributes in a meaningful way and learns that our classroom works best when everyone helps care for our class family.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue practicing perspective taking during academic learning, partner work, and peer conflicts. We are using the resources to support current lessons on cooperation, problem solving, and repairing harm. The laminating pouches, ink pads, clipboards, and art drying rack have been put to good use.\r\n\r\nIn my special education resource classroom we use universal design strategies and a variety of mediums to help children access their education. As a result, my classroom requires a variety of different items to help my students reach their educational goals.\r\n\r\nStudents and staff have especially liked the new colorful clipboards that we have in our classroom. My students like to complete their work in different areas of the classroom, and sometimes even take coloring sheets or work outside during the day. They like the new clipboards so much, that it has become a motivator for some to complete their work if they get their \"special\" clipboard. My paraeducators have also been using the clipboards to take data, show work examples, and use for other lessons during the school day.\r\n\r\nThe laminating pouches have been used to laminate student work, visual schedules, and other necessary class items. We laminate constantly in my classroom, and it is vital for us to implement lessons and activities. The students have been so excited to participate in phonics lessons, because their cards now include Disney characters, movie references, or other items from Disney. \r\n\r\nThe students were very excited to see the new ink pads, and it has reinvigorated their interest in using the stamps to practice their phonics and high frequency words.
