The students were thrilled to dissect owl pellets and couldn't wait to see what they would discover inside. It was such an engaging, hands-on experience that connected perfectly to our reading and science lessons. We tied the activity to the story \"Ookpik: The Journey of a Snowy Owl,\" which helped students make real-world connections between literature and science.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement in the room was contagious — the students were amazed that they'd get to do a \"real\" dissection! Through this project, they learned how to identify bones, reconstruct skeletons, and understand predator-prey relationships within food chains and food webs.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll continue exploring ecosystems and energy transfer, building on what we learned from the owl pellets. The project truly brought science to life for my students, and I'm so grateful to our donors for making this unforgettable learning experience possible!","fullyFundedDate":1755716787605,"projectUrl":"project/owl-pellet-dissection-literaryscience/9510847/","projectTitle":"OWL Pellet Dissection - Literary/Science Connection","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Alexander","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10098726"},{"teacherId":10095791,"projectId":9504227,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our 4th and 5th grade students are officially ukulele players! The excitement was electric the day we unpacked the instruments. I even bought some wood and hooks to create a special display rack, and our amazing lead custodian helped me hang it. Our music room has been transformed into a real performance space. The students were beyond excited to see the ukuleles neatly lined up and ready to play.\r\n We've already jumped into learning, and one moment in particular stands out. During a recent class, we were practicing switching between chords - a skill that can be really trick for beginners. I was a little nervous that it might be too difficult, but to my surprise, the students were absolutely nailing it! Seeing their confidence grow and hearing the joyful sound of music fill our classroom has been incredibly rewarding. \r\n Our goal is to play ukuleles in our upcoming winter concert, giving students a chance to show off what they've learned. We're also considering taking our music out into the community to perform at local events and nursing homes.
