These beautiful art supplies will make such a difference in the activities we can plan for our art trauma-based groups this school year. The water colors will help with abstract emotional storytelling and brushing away stress activities. We will use the canvas' to paint our stories/traumas. Since receiving our Donors Choose materials we have been able to provide community building opportunities to our group members. Our group begins with a community building exercise for every session. This allows the group members to loosen up, laugh and communicate with each other before diving into deep topics. Our male students have gained a sense of trust and community by way of the games and activities your program has provided. We listen to music during every session allowing group members to choose which songs are included on the playlist. Our new wireless speaker helps a great deal to provide this amenity. \r\n\r\nOur group members were very excited to receive the materials in our Donors Choose package (especially the snacks). I have included a few pictures of them engaging in activities and sharing expressions of safety and enjoyment. For some, it was an expression of interest in their lives that was not a common experience. They look forward to the group and often ask at the start of the week when it will be scheduled. Overall the group members are grateful for the interest in them and your generosity. \r\n\r\nNext steps for the group include using activities outlined in a book included in our Donors Choose package (Therapy Games for Teens by YevhenII LozovyI). We plan to introduce the concept of Self-Awareness and how this skill can aid in managing feelings of depression, anxiety, and the constant state of feeling unsafe. It is also our goal to plan a field trip that would allow our students to experience positive aspects of life outside of their community. We also plan to include outside community members and professional speakers to share ideas and encourage them to dream big!","fullyFundedDate":1726683495633,"projectUrl":"project/manuscript-using-sel-skills-to-address/8711413/","projectTitle":"ManUscript: Using SEL skills to address mental health concerns.","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Green","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9711801"},{"teacherId":9714366,"projectId":8715660,"letterContent":"I am so thankful for your willingness to help my students.
