From the moment the materials arrived, the atmosphere in the classroom shifted from curiosity to genuine excitement. My students were immediately drawn to the game board. There is often a misconception that studying the Constitution has to be a dry, but their eyes lit up when they realized they would be engaging with the \"Supreme Law of the Land\" through friendly competition. During a heated moment of play one of the students remarked, \"This is fun,\" proving that complex history can be truly engaging with the right tools.\r\n\r\nSince we began playing, I have seen a remarkable shift in how students engage with our founding documents. The thrill of the race to the finish line encourages them to dive deeper into the Articles and Amendments. It has been incredible to hear them make real-time connections to our previous lessons; during one round, a student paused to say, \"Remember we talked about marble cake federalism in class?\" as they navigated a question about state and federal powers. The game has turned a complex subject into a quest for knowledge, fostering a sense of pride as they realize just how much they able to apply their knowledge. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve taking the \"Constitutional literacy\" gained from this game and applying it to a mock Congressional session. Students will use the specific knowledge they've mastered—such as the powers of the different branches—to draft and debate their own \"classroom bills.\" This project will bridge the gap between historical facts and modern civic engagement. Your generosity has provided the spark for this journey, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to turn our classroom into a hub of active, informed citizens.","fullyFundedDate":1761932803067,"projectUrl":"project/help-my-students-become-constitution-exp/9745484/","projectTitle":"Help My Students Become Constitution Experts!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bahrke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9499926"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_68055","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":229,"numTeachers":14,"percentFrplEligible":73,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":87,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":54.7,"schoolId":68055,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hillman Junior Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hillman Junior Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/hillman-community-school-district/hillman-junior-senior-high-school/68055"}
