We've been using the financial literacy games, cash register, flexible seating, and hands-on tools during our daily math and life skills lessons. One of my favorite moments happened during a money lesson: my students were using the cash register and The Allowance Game to practice counting coins, paying for items, and making change. The materials you helped purchase make a difference in our classroom setting. These skills are essential for their independence, and having real materials in their hands made the lesson finally \"click.\" I saw students who normally shut down during math suddenly engaged, eager, and proud of themselves.\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were absolutely thrilled. The orange bean bag chair instantly became the most popular spot—everyone wanted a turn to use it in our calming corner. The stencils, coloring tools, and games sparked so much curiosity. They explored everything with excitement, and for many of my students, that sense of comfort and enthusiasm is what helps them stay engaged in learning.\r\nIn a prevocational setting, every tool that connects learning to real life matters. Our next steps include using the cash register and financial literacy games during community-based instruction so students can practice making real purchases and handling money safely and independently. The flexible seating and visual supports will continue to help students regulate, focus, and build confidence during independent work.\r\nYour generosity didn't just provide supplies—it helped create meaningful opportunities for my students to practice the skills they will use in everyday life. Thank you for supporting their growth, independence, and future success.","fullyFundedDate":1755522435100,"projectUrl":"project/making-a-difference/9502880/","projectTitle":"Making a Difference","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cardona","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10095027_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753554904729","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mscardona2122"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_54593","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2778,"numTeachers":121,"percentFrplEligible":73,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":69,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"23.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.4,"schoolId":54593,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Highland High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Highland High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/antelope-valley-union-high-school-district/highland-high-school/54593"}
