The use of these resources has directly empowered our students to take charge of their learning and provided instructional materials for those who previously lacked them. Seeing this transformation has been truly exciting!\r\n\r\n\r\nThank you, once again, Flag Award Foundation for teaching, for your profound donation. This Creative Coding Project included an Ozobot set, Mech 5 Mechanical Coding Robot, Snap Circuits Junior, Snap Circuits Motion, Snap Circuits Discover Coding, and Snap Circuits Light. These materials comprise our new Library Coding Makerspace! Many students learn best by experimenting and doing. In a Makerspace, students are given materials and the opportunity to just use them. With these items, students are experimenting and learning coding concepts. \r\n\r\nMy students thoroughly enjoy using all the items in the Creative Coding Project. The Ozobot perhaps excites the students most. A Ozobot is a small circular robot with sensors that detect color. The Ozobot moves, based on color input. Student have fun creating obstacle courses with markers and paper for the Ozobot to follow. Depending on what colors students use, the Ozobot can move forwards, move backwards, move to the left, move to the right, move in a straight line and/or move in a zig-zag line. \r\n\r\nMy students are also enjoying the Snap Circuits sets. A Snap Circuit set is a kit that has building components with snaps that connect together to build circuits on a grid. This grid is laid out in rows and columns. Snap Circuits Junior is a more general set that is for younger students and less experienced builders. Snap Circuits build things including a radio alarm, a burglar alarm, a recorder, and digital voice. \r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, these kits are preparing my students for careers in coding, electronics and robotics.\r\nMy students like the Mech 5 Mechanical Coding Robot as well. This set builds a robot that moves for students.","fullyFundedDate":1735587562493,"projectUrl":"project/creative-coding/9011375/","projectTitle":"Creative Coding","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7118338"},{"teacherId":9819447,"projectId":8947902,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support! Your donation has brought comfort, joy, and a sense of calm to our classroom in ways that are already making a big difference.\r\n\r\nHow are we using the bean bag chair?\r\nThe bean bag chair has become a favorite spot in our classroom's calm-down corner. Students use it to take mindful breaks, practice breathing exercises, and reset when they're feeling overwhelmed. It's been especially helpful during our daily meditation time—students settle into the bean bag, close their eyes, and focus on their breathing. It's created a peaceful space where they can self-regulate and return to learning with a clearer mind.\r\n\r\nHow did students react when they first saw the bean bags and board games?\r\nTheir reactions were priceless! When the students walked in and saw the new bean bags and board games, their faces lit up with excitement. One student said, \"This is the coolest classroom ever!\" The board games have become a wonderful way to build social skills and teamwork during indoor recess and free time. It's heartwarming to see students laughing, strategizing, and bonding over a game of Connect Four or Uno.\r\n\r\nWhat's next for our classroom?\r\nWe're already dreaming up our next project! Our goal is to expand our calm-down and creativity zones with more sensory tools, mindfulness books, and collaborative games. These additions will help us continue building a classroom environment that supports emotional well-being and joyful learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for being a part of our journey. We have been able to use these snacks when we are meeting or just when they stop by my office to talk and get things out of their hearts and minds. The snacks help them regulate their hunger and allow them to get more focused on what is happening around them and outside of them. \r\n\r\nNeedless to say, the girls were thrilled that there were always snacks for them to enjoy at any moment of the day. They would find me in the hallways, my classroom, or as I said before in my office. It has been my pleasure to give them a safe space to speak and now a safe space to find a snack and regulate their hunger so they can place their minds somewhere else. The snacks helped all of my girls, some of my girls don't eat certain ingredients, and some of my girls want to eat more healthy snacks. We had all different kinds of snacks to meet the needs of religion, culture, or lifestyle choices. That is one of the best parts. Lastly, as it has been very cold in NY the snacks have truly made more of an impact as they do not have to go outside to find a quick snack.
