One specific challenge I faced was that my students eat lunch at 10:30 a.m., and by the time we meet in the afternoon, they often feel lethargic. Many of them are focused on the time, anticipating the end of the school day so they can go to the store for snacks.\r\n\r\nTo address this, I implemented a simple yet effective solution: providing snacks at the start and end of the period. This small change has significantly improved classroom energy and participation.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first realized they would be receiving snacks twice per class period, their excitement was evident. Now, they rush to class to see who arrives first and gets first choice of the day's snacks. This added element of excitement has helped improve punctuality and engagement in the classroom.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I will continue to provide students with snacks to support their focus and participation. This initiative has not only addressed a basic need but has also created a positive classroom environment where students feel valued and motivated to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1732716937982,"projectUrl":"project/snack-attack-fueling-our-students-succe/8869748/","projectTitle":"Snack Attack: Fueling Our Students Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Madera","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9799750"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2081","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":106,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":70,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"5.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.4,"schoolId":2081,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about High School for Violin & Dance on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"High School for Violin & Dance","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/community-school-district-9/high-school-for-violin-dance/2081"}
