We used them with our letter of the week. We read the books aloud twice. We used the reproducible sheets inside plastic sleeves and practiced making the letters with Play-Doh. I came up with (thanks, internet) a project for each letter. The alligator was their favorite project. Students used stuffed animals to retell some of the books. By combining the books with writing, fine motor skills, and fun, we are strengthening reading, phonics, and comprehension.\r\n We used the Pete the Cat books to work on rhyming, choral reading, sequencing, and social-emotional learning. Pete is a favorite character with my tiny humans, and the books help my students learn to sequence events in a story, compare characters, and identify cause and effect. All of these skills are vital for a solid foundation in reading. One of my students who rarely speaks will participate with the Pete books, and will read the \"Goodness, no!\" response with his classmates. \r\n My students' very favorite book, which they ask me to read all the time, is The Bad Seed. This and the books about the Bad Seeds' friends are great for teaching facial expressions, socio-emotional skills, and kindness. As we finish reading the books aloud, they go into our classroom library for students to have access to all day long. Because of your generosity, my tiny humans are learning valuable foundational skills while having fun.
