I love to read, and I hope that I am passing that on to my students. Each 9 weeks my classes participate in literature circles. Students are able to look at about 18 to 20 books. They have access to book trailer videos and are able to get on Goodreads. The students then choose their top 6 books and put them in groups from there.\r\n\r\nWhen groups are created, our reading begins! Students read their book for 20 minutes. The number of pages read depends on the number of pages in the book and how long we are doing the literature circles. After reading, students discuss what they read for about 3 to 5 minutes. Each student as a role in their group. After discussion, students then independently work on a standard we are focusing on for the week. These standards are reviewed daily. Students will create a one-pager or answer questions depending on what standard we are focused on.\r\n\r\nMy students are enjoying the books that were purchased. Some of them even have a waitlist to be checked out. I am so very grateful that you purchased these books for my classroom. They will be used from year to year until they fall apart.","fullyFundedDate":1733165598149,"projectUrl":"project/book-tasting-and-literature-circles-do/8617444/","projectTitle":"Book Tasting and Literature Circles -Do We Get to Eat?","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. O'Neal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9643557_orig.jpg?crop=2711,2711,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723251774978","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9643557"},{"teacherId":9335401,"projectId":8244841,"letterContent":"Thank you for your support in my classroom. The students absolutely loved this novel and were able to make some life connections to the events and characters. We were able to discuss perspective very clearly and how each person is unique and thinks differently. We were able to analyze character motivations and connect that to what motivates us to act certain ways. It was awesome to see the kids excited on how the characters' conflicts were were basically bad cases of miscommunication and dishonesty. I stressed to them that this happens quite often in the real world and we were able to roleplay different scenarios to try to be more understanding and patient with others.","fullyFundedDate":1709056584929,"projectUrl":"project/learn-genuine-social-and-emotional-lesso/8244841/","projectTitle":"Learn Genuine Social and Emotional Lessons through Reading: Flipped","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Minga","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9335401_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697646637211","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9335401"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_10543","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1147,"numTeachers":56,"percentFrplEligible":25,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":73,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"20.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":51.7,"schoolId":10543,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hernando Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hernando Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/mississippi/desoto-co-school-district/hernando-middle-school/10543"}
