It may sound simple, but that sameness has created something powerful: equity. No student feels left out or judged by the kind of supplies they can or cannot afford. Instead, each page begins with the same promise — a blank space for creativity, reflection, and learning.\r\n\r\nThese notebooks have become more than tools for writing. They've become symbols of unity, belonging, and shared purpose. In a year when our community continues to recover from Hurricane Helene, this sense of equality and connection matters deeply. Students write daily, sketch ideas, plan service projects, and capture reflections on empathy, adaptability, and personal responsibility — the same durable skills that shape our Portrait of a Graduate.\r\n\r\nYour gift did more than buy paper — it built confidence, dignity, and togetherness. On behalf of every student who now writes without stigma, thank you for believing that small, shared tools can make a big, lasting difference.","fullyFundedDate":1752671214755,"projectUrl":"project/one-notebook-one-class-a-simple-shift/9459939/","projectTitle":"One Notebook, One Class: A Simple Shift with Powerful Results","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. G.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1806803_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1474845691094","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tgallagher"},{"teacherId":10064257,"projectId":9434273,"letterContent":"I want to say thank you for your role in helping fund the \"HMS Counseling Wishlist: Meeting Needs & Creating Comfort\" project that was posted over the summer. My counseling teammate and I are still overwhelmed by the generosity we received, and know that the counseling center we have created would not have been possible if we had not received your donations. \r\n\r\nWe requested items that we knew would be useful because they would help us with several goals we had for ourselves at Heritage. We asked for feminine hygiene products to help get our Period Pantries off the ground, and with the help of your donations, we have been able to place four pantries in our school. One in each of the main restrooms, and one in our nurse's restroom, too. These pantries are a hot commodity and are being refilled with products approximately every 2 weeks. In addition to increasing access to hygiene products, it has also reduced the amount of time students miss class and also the number of students who need to change clothes while at school for menstrual-related issues.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, we requested art supplies such as: coloring books, crayons, and markers. These art supplies have allowed us to create a relaxation station in the counseling office where students can take a brain break and de-stress. Students have used this to color images in the coloring book, make cards for loved ones, and some have even made cards for our principal for Principal Appreciation Month. \r\n\r\nLastly, we requested flexible seating via camping chairs. These have been a huge success, not only with students, but also with staff! When students arrive in our office, they have a range of seating to choose from now, and they find autonomy in getting to choose what seat fits their needs/mood best. I also have one teacher who swears that sitting in the rocking chair just eases their mind, and I am inclined to agree. \r\n\r\nThank you for helping HMS create a space that meets students where they are and helps them feel more at ease when talking about hard topics.","fullyFundedDate":1754860929841,"projectUrl":"project/hms-counseling-wishlist-meeting-needs-/9434273/","projectTitle":"HMS Counseling Wishlist: Meeting Needs & Creating Comfort","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Scruggs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10064257_orig.jpg?crop=1361,1361,x0,y445&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761010257870","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10064257"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1301","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":476,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":78,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":73,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":76.1,"schoolId":1301,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Heritage Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Heritage Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/burke-county-school-district/heritage-middle-school/1301"}
