These texts have introduced us to a wide range of skills and lessons—from practicing phonics and decoding words, to developing comprehension, making predictions, and connecting stories to our own lives. Many of the books also spark rich conversations about kindness, problem-solving, and resilience, helping my students grow not just as readers, but as thoughtful individuals.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is joyful, interactive, and hands-on. Students curl up with books during independent reading, read aloud to partners, and join in on whole-group story time where we pause to discuss characters, settings, and big ideas. You'd often hear giggles during funny parts, or see hands shooting up when someone wants to share a connection they've made. The new books have given us so many opportunities for meaningful discussions and for students to see themselves in stories.\r\n\r\nSome students have especially thrived with these additions. One of my reluctant readers has found confidence through a series he can't put down—he's gone from hesitating to open a book to eagerly asking, \"Can I read another chapter?\" Others who are strong readers love diving into the more challenging texts, stretching their thinking and vocabulary. And almost every day, I hear, \"Can we read this one again?\"—a sure sign that the books are making a lasting impact.\r\n\r\nYour support has made our classroom library a place where curiosity is sparked and a love of reading continues to grow. Thank you for giving my students stories that inspire, challenge, and delight them every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1755757727212,"projectUrl":"project/turning-the-page-building-a-2nd-grade-l/9379477/","projectTitle":"Turning the Page: Building a 2nd Grade Library from Scratch","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Park","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1427147_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y76&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1653941872019","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jungywungy"},{"teacherId":9804613,"projectId":8880895,"letterContent":"The students had a great time enhancing their reading skills by reading the provided books and finally having their own set of books that they did not have to share with another class. The students were able to learn note taking skills while reading the book and take assessments throughout reading the chapters to show clarification of their understanding and comprehension. Their final project was the best and they enjoyed it tremendously. They had to write a letter as the main character in the book to someone in their tribe. They describe three major events that happened to them while they were alone on the island.
