Your kindness has truly made a lasting impact on my students and their learning experience. In a Title I school like mine, where many families face financial challenges, resources like these are more than just classroom tools—they are opportunities that open the world to children who may not otherwise have access to such engaging and enriching materials.\r\n\r\nThe moment I shared with my students that we would be receiving Weekly Reader magazines, their eyes lit up with excitement. Many of them have never had their own magazine before, and the thought of holding something colorful, interesting, and filled with stories and facts just for them was incredibly motivating. These magazines will become a meaningful part of our literacy routine and will play an important role in helping students apply what they've learned in real-world contexts.\r\n\r\nIn reading intervention, we often focus on foundational skills—phonics, fluency, and comprehension—but what students truly need is a way to connect those skills to meaningful, relevant, and enjoyable reading experiences. Weekly Reader makes that possible. The topics are age-appropriate, visually engaging, and written in a way that invites discussion and curiosity. Whether it's exploring animals, learning about the seasons, reading about important historical figures, or discovering new science concepts, the magazines help bridge what students are learning in class to the larger world around them.\r\n\r\nThese magazines also allow my students to feel like real readers. They can take them to the reading rug, partner read with a friend, or bring one home to proudly share with their families. For many of them, reading at home isn't always possible due to a lack of materials, so this gift extends far beyond our classroom walls. It encourages family conversations, builds a sense of pride, and shows my students that reading can be both informative and fun.\r\n\r\nIn addition to supporting literacy, Weekly Reader encourages critical thinking and curiosity. Each issue provides opportunities for students to analyze, make connections, and express their ideas in writing. They're learning to think like researchers and readers who question, infer, and explain their thinking. That's a huge step in developing confident, capable learners who love to read.\r\n\r\nYour generosity also helps foster a positive classroom culture. When my students see new materials arrive, they understand that someone beyond our classroom walls cares about their education. That belief—that they matter—has a powerful impact on their motivation and self-worth. They begin to see themselves as part of something bigger, and that inspires them to do their best.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in their future and for supporting teachers like me who are working hard to make learning joyful and meaningful. Your donation has brought so much excitement, curiosity, and confidence into our classroom. Every page my students turn will be a reminder of your kindness and belief in their potential.","fullyFundedDate":1761685739302,"projectUrl":"project/scholastic-scholars/9847759/","projectTitle":"Scholastic Scholars","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Halvorson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10052313_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749391243994","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10052313"},{"teacherId":10052313,"projectId":9672869,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in funding our decodable books for my Title I classroom. Your kindness has made a powerful difference in the lives of my young readers.\r\n\r\nIn our small intervention groups, these books have become an essential tool for helping students strengthen their reading skills. Each day, I see their confidence grow as they sound out words, recognize patterns, and begin to read with greater fluency and pride. For many of my students, reading has often felt like an uphill climb—but now, with materials that meet them right where they are, they're finally experiencing success and joy in learning.\r\n\r\nThese decodable books have transformed our reading time into moments of excitement and discovery. Students eagerly pick their books and can't wait to show what they've learned. Your generosity has given them access to resources that truly open doors—doors to literacy, to confidence, and to a lifelong love of reading.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the potential of every child and for helping create a classroom where each student feels capable and proud of their progress. Your support for our Cozy Christmas project created an experience that my students — and I — will never forget. Because of you, every single child in my class received their very own blanket and a special book to unwrap and call their own this holiday season.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, this small act of giving meant more than words can express. Many of them come from families who work incredibly hard but still face financial challenges. Gifts and new books aren't things they receive often, and the look of pure joy on their faces as they opened their packages was something I will always remember. One of my students hugged her blanket tightly and whispered, \"I've never had my own before.\" Another student immediately opened his new book and began reading right there on the carpet, wrapped up in his new blanket with the biggest smile.\r\n\r\nThe day we celebrated Cozy Christmas was filled with warmth — both literally and emotionally. We dimmed the lights, played soft Christmas music, and read stories together while everyone snuggled up in their new blankets. The room glowed with peace and happiness. My students kept saying things like, \"This is the best day ever,\" and \"I love my book!\" For children who often face difficult circumstances outside of school, this day gave them a sense of comfort, belonging, and pure childhood joy.\r\n\r\nThe books you helped provide weren't just gifts — they were tools for imagination and growth. Each one helped foster a love of reading and encouraged my students to see themselves as readers, thinkers, and dreamers. It was powerful to see them trade stories and talk excitedly about which book they wanted to read next. You gave them not just a Christmas gift, but the gift of literacy and the belief that stories matter — and that they matter.\r\n\r\nYour generosity also reminded my students that kindness exists in the world — that people they've never met care enough to make their holiday brighter. Many of them asked, \"Why would someone buy this for us?\" and it opened the door for beautiful conversations about compassion, giving, and gratitude. You showed them what it means to be part of a caring community, and that lesson will stay with them long after the holiday season ends.\r\n\r\nAs their teacher, I am deeply moved and incredibly grateful. This project was more than just blankets and books — it was warmth, comfort, and love wrapped up in generosity. You made my classroom a place where every child felt seen, valued, and celebrated. Thank you for helping me give my students the kind of Christmas memory they will treasure for years to come.\r\n\r\nWith heartfelt appreciation,\r\nKim Halvorson\r\n2nd Grade Teacher, Hebard Elementary","fullyFundedDate":1753402204596,"projectUrl":"project/cozy-christmas/9403031/","projectTitle":"Cozy Christmas","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Halvorson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10052313_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749391243994","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10052313"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39450","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":108,"numTeachers":16,"percentFrplEligible":45,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":56,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":39,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"6.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":23.7,"schoolId":39450,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hebard Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hebard Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wyoming/laramie-county-school-district-1/hebard-elementary-school/39450"}
