This gift has significantly enhanced learning for my deaf and hard of hearing students by providing instant access to a vast collection of accessible books through the New York City Public Library's digital catalog. With the ability to download books at various reading levels, I can meet each student where they are, whether they are emerging readers in kindergarten or more advanced learners in high school. This technology also allows me to incorporate interactive educational games, visual apps, and differentiated learning programs tailored to the unique needs of students with disabilities, especially those who benefit from more visual and game-based learning. The portability of the device means I can bring these resources into any classroom, providing consistent support across multiple school sites.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is the technology-based interactive nature of our sessions! Many of them are drawn to new technology and, as the generation raised around these devices, they love finding new games and resources to play with. Though they may struggle with the academics of the lesson, my students maintain a sense of confidence in knowing that they are adept in using the technology. Having this new iPad mini makes learning feel fun and achievable for them. One young student in particular has been eagerly exploring new books using the text to speech feature of the program Epic! and has increased their vocabulary greatly!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for allowing my students the opportunity to explore new ways of learning, access endless literary resources, and find fun and engaging ways of acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary for their success.","fullyFundedDate":1742951988322,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-learning-on-the-go-ipad-mini/9170353/","projectTitle":"Empowering Learning on the Go: iPad Mini for Itinerant Teaching","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Schiff","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3643357_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1466097952742","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msschiff"},{"teacherId":3643357,"projectId":9062977,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity! The technology you helped provide has already made an impact in supporting this student's understanding of both teachers and peers in the classroom. The iPad and microphones, along with the text-to-speech program, ensure that my student can understand conversations more clearly, which can already be seen in their increased engagement and participation. \r\n\r\nThe most exciting aspect of this new technology is the immediate accessibility it has provided. Being able to access real-time transcriptions of lessons has allowed this student to focus on understanding the content without the stress of trying to write everything down while struggling to read the teacher's lips. This ability to revisit transcriptions at their own pace means this student can also review key information whenever necessary, providing an added layer of support outside the classroom.\r\n\r\nAs a result of your generosity, this student has shown that they already feel more confident in participating in class.
