Inspired by the themes in the book Hoot, students learned that young people could make a difference by taking responsibility for protecting the environment and speaking up for positive change. They demonstrated incredible creativity as they designed and carried out projects focused on caring for the planet. What was especially inspiring was the level of family involvement. Parents, siblings, and even grandparents joined in by helping plant gardens, reduce waste, conserve water, and make eco-friendly choices at home. Through this experience, students developed lasting habits of environmental responsibility and became more mindful of the impact of their daily actions both in and out of school. The project empowered students to recognize that their voices and actions matter and that even small acts of kindness toward the planet can create meaningful change in their families, communities, and beyond.","fullyFundedDate":1769178085944,"projectUrl":"project/help-6th-graders-learn-to-protect-our-pl/9991452/","projectTitle":"Help 6th Graders Learn to Protect Our Planet","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Collier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10398859"},{"teacherId":5278840,"projectId":9445715,"letterContent":"Our class was very excited in receiving our new Nature carpet. It arrived very quickly. In my excitement, I rolled it out and set it in place for the students to see first thing in the morning. Unfortunately, the next morning I was greeted with pouring rain outside my classroom door. I quickly rolled it up again and pushed it to the corner of the room. When the students arrived I told them about our gift. We all agreed that the carpet should stay rolled up until the rains had stopped. After a week we eagerly unveiled the beauty. What joy it has brought us all!\r\n\r\nThe carpet has become our favorite gathering place. We dance on it, have conversations there, and it makes a great napping spot. With so much usage you would think that it would be dirty by now-nope! The students are respectful and work hard to make sure that it stays clean. I know that this carpet will last many years and countless memories will be made on it.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting our class project through your generous donation.","fullyFundedDate":1755731691576,"projectUrl":"project/rooted-in-calm-a-nature-carpet-for-sel/9445715/","projectTitle":"Rooted in Calm: A Nature Carpet for SEL and Community","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vogel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5278840_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690867101434","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5278840"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_36136","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":334,"numTeachers":14,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":86,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"23.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.7,"schoolId":36136,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hazel Goes Cook Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hazel Goes Cook Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/chula-vista-elementary-school-district/hazel-goes-cook-elementary-school/36136"}
