They aren't just learning slip knots and double crochets; they are learning that their hands have the power to bring comfort to someone hurting.\r\n\r\nYour support has turned our classroom into a workshop of compassion. We will be witnessing it. 🧪🌿\r\n\r\nYour donation means that my 9th graders will soon be getting their hands wet measuring pH levels, adjusting nutrient solutions, and tracking the growth of the food they will eventually eat. One student even said, \"I'm never touching my desk again without wiping it first.\" The moment they saw those agar plates blooming with colonies, the room erupted in chatter about hygiene, lab safety, and all the unseen microbes around us.\r\n\r\nWith the 70 percent rubbing alcohol from this project, my students can now take action based on their own data. They have started cleaning their desks before and after lab work, and many have taken extra care with their lab procedures because they truly understand the impact of contamination. It has been incredible to watch them connect their observations to real-world behavior, turning a simple bacterial culture activity into a lesson on responsibility and scientific decision-making.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, they are experiencing the full scientific process: gathering evidence, interpreting results, and making informed choices that keep our classroom safe and healthy. They immediately put them on, some buttoning them all the way to the top to look official and others striking dramatic scientist poses. The energy in the room shifted right away. Suddenly our classroom felt like a real lab rather than just a room with tables and materials. The excitement made our current unit on bones feel even more engaging, and the lab coats helped students step confidently into their roles as young scientists.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened during our first hands-on activity in this unit. A student who is usually hesitant to participate put on a lab coat, looked at themselves in the mirror, and said, \"I actually feel like a scientist now.\" They not only joined the group work, but ended up leading their team's labeling and structural analysis. Watching them come alive through something as simple as a lab coat reminded me how much these resources can influence confidence and curiosity.\r\n\r\nIn a few months we are moving into a unit on model organisms using C. elegans. Students will observe behavior, learn how scientists use model species to answer biological questions, and begin designing their own small investigations. The lab coats will continue to support this work by helping students feel immersed in the real scientific process.
