Your generosity made it possible for our students to engage in a creative, hands-on experience that not only enhanced their technical skills but also provided a valuable outlet for emotional expression and growth. Middle school can be a challenging time, and this project gave students a space to slow down, collaborate, and explore new ways to communicate and connect with one another.\r\n\r\nThrough stop-motion animation, students learned more than just how to tell stories with LEGO—they developed patience, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. They worked together to plan scenes, adjust small movements frame by frame, and bring their ideas to life. Along the way, they practiced critical thinking, teamwork, and perseverance, skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom. Watching their excitement as they saw their animations come together was truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nBeyond the technical skills, this project helped students regulate their emotions in a positive and constructive way. The process of building, creating, and animating encouraged mindfulness and focus, giving students an opportunity to manage stress while engaging in meaningful work. The structured yet open-ended nature of stop-motion allowed students to express emotions, explore empathy, and develop social awareness in a way that felt natural and engaging.\r\n\r\nYour support made all of this possible. You helped create an opportunity for students to learn, grow, and develop important life skills in a fun and supportive environment. Thank you for believing in the power of creativity and for making a difference in the lives of our students. We truly appreciate your generosity and the impact it has had on our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1733270217272,"projectUrl":"project/building-calm-and-empathy-with-lego/8866353/","projectTitle":"Building Calm and Empathy with LEGO","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Renner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9798008"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_66605","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":584,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":72,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":89,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"18.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":66605,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hastings Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hastings Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/hastings-area-school-district/hastings-middle-school/66605"}
